I am sure there are many threads complaining about Core's unreasonable Apple pricing in South Africa. How Apple can allow such a situation to exist is beyond me. Have a look at the picture for price differences between Apple USA, Apple UK, Apple Australia and Apple SA pricing.

To be clear I have used the following parameters for this data:

1. All Apple USA Store prices are quoted Excluding VAT. So, for a fare comparison, I have shown all prices for the four zones as Excluding VAT.

2. The Rand Dollar exchange rate is currently about R7.45 to the dollar. I have based the comparison on R8.00 to the dollar - this was the exchange rate back in June this year so I feel that is fair.

3. The Pound Dollar exchange rate was based on 0.65 Pounds to the Dollar.

4. The Australian Dollar to US Dollar exchange rate was based on 1.20 Aus Dollars to the US Dollar.

As you will notice SA pricing is generally around 30% more. iPods are around 50% more than USA and the iPod Classic is a staggering 74% more! (look at the Aus and UK percentage differences here - around 0%)

Despite having to allow for import duties and the like, Core's mark-ups are simply ridiculous.

I knew prices in sunny South Africa were higher, but I didn't realise that the difference was so great. Those prices are crazy.

Core cannot argue that a mark up of more than 10% can be justified due to imports or whatever as these products still have to be imported to the UK, Australia and the US seeing as the are made in China.

It makes me sick

I think a fairer comparison might be gained on the %age UK to ZA, seeing as how that is the source for our Apple stock. Course, it won't make much difference except this one:

Apple Keyboard: US = 392 ; UK = 300 ; ZA = 701. 134%!!!

Triple digits!
