Anyone using this? Trying to figure out if it’s worth the price tag or should consider 3rd party…

MacOS has a VNC-compatible server built-in (under settings>sharing) as well as a client called "Screen Sharing". Both free.

So I'm not sure what you are referring to specifically.

Edit: if you are referring to/from Windows, VNC client on Windows, or Window App on Mac will work. A VNC client should also work from iPad.

I'll just add:if your purpose is running e.g. a Mac Mini without a screen, don't forget about Apple SideCart (you might need another remote option just to get it going). But in terms of performance it is the best by far as long as you are close to it.

Never really been a fan of VNC - too much time using it and being frustrated with dodgy implementations for remote kvm work. Is it as good as Remote Desktop by now?

*Microsoft remote desktop

Nah, remoting various Mac’s.

What is your use case?

Apple Remote Desktop doesn’t really work over the internet if that was what you were thinking.

Also if it’s enterprise your MDM should already have this built-in anyway.

Personal use case to remote a few Macs. They’re all on an internal network with its own vpn access. Trying to find something that is at least as good as what MS offers with RDP/Windows App

Then you need nothing more than the built-in Screen Sharing found under Utilities.

Just enable it under System Preferences > Screen Sharing on every Mac and you are done.

I used it some years back but was quite a terrible experience - probably bandwidth constrained so will give it another go. Thought perhaps ARD might be improved somewhat but appears it’s utilizing the same.

For your use case ARD would work much better and while it uses the same protocols is more feature rich.

But I’m not sure it’s worth paying for.

Maybe liberate a copy and test it out before paying.

Was hoping someone had some first hand experience with it. Probably gonna have to figure out a “trial”

I used it for many years…but it was about ten years ago or possibly even more so not very helpful presently.

Was great before the cloud took over to manage machines and updates etc.
