Apple sells two million iPad tablet computers

Peter, I own a 64GB 3G iPad, and believe me, it IS all it's cracked up to be. NO, it's NOT a laptop, it doesn't pretend to be. It is a completely different device, so please don't try to compare it to a laptop - it's NOT one. I have a MacBook Pro, and it does NOT mean I will sell my MBP. My MBP has it's place, and so does my iPad. My iPad is totally mobile with it's 3G connection to Vodacom ie. it travels with me wherever I go. If I am waiting for a pizza, I can whip out the iPad - with no boot-up time !!!!!!!!, and read a downloaded magazine, or book, and do some reading, or check email or browse the internet - all in a small, but yet highly interactive device.

Please own one before you spew uninformed vitriol

I wish some could have the dignity to admit success, and give credit where credit is due. Like it or not......the iPad is a runaway success, and even better news - next month when we upgrade our iPads firmware, it will be an even more of an incredible device, with more than 100 additions. You cannot deny the success - I was in the USA 10 days ago, and every single Apple store across the entire USA was out of the iPad - of every size and variation, wifi only and also wifi with 3G. The iPad has also recently helped Apple to pip Microsoft in terms of market cap.

+1

Steve Jobso said it makes netbooks extinct. So what is it then?

It's a mobile internet device with a bigger screen. Most smartphones have that feature. Most non-smartphones too. Heck many portable video players eg Cowon Q5W has those features (Wifi). Also fast boot. Netbook/ultraportable with SSD boots up in under 15sec. Sure not instantaneous but the Pad is incredibly crippled.

Oh come on! We're not speaking a new sensation here - describe the colour orange to a blind man. We're talking portable internet in a cumbersome form factor. So you carry your device in your pocket or under your arm?

Success of what? A portable internet device.

I just don't get you fanboys. It is a nice toy but it is a toy.

I was amazed at the build quality from the iPad i tested...(http://www.blendtec.com/willitblend/videos.aspx?type=unsafe&video=ipad) - LOL

I hear you when you comment on the usability and that it is a "closed" system, but from the point of fanboy the device is awesome. I particularly like the fact its an always on device (yes, so to is netbook), but this looks cooler :)

In terms of communications device, this is meant from the view point of ease of use and user experience. The screen is brilliant and the "smartness" of the device and associated apps make this a "new communications device". The standard data transfer methods are old, yes.

It is not a new communications device. It is internet on a tablet with an incredible amount of crippling. It falls under the smart phone segment. It's also very big which means you have to remember to carry it with you and it will occupy one of your hands - unlike a smartphone which can fit in your pocket.

You guys are discovering portable internet - good for you -- but don't copy the marketing hype and say it's a new communications device - it's an iPod Touch with 3G and a bigger screen.

I've handled better S-IPS displays.
I've handled better Portable Media Players - with greater DPI, better screen (yes non-TN), which plays EVERY type of video file.
I've played with portable internet. When you're out you don't want to browse. You want to get about your business. I don't get these asocial people who bring an iPad/Netbook/Notebook to Starbucks and sit there drinking the coffee reading websites they could read at home.
I work on Mac OSX Leopard.
I know Apple build quality and it isn't top notch.

So you're happy - good for you - but don't get upset when people like me scratch their heads. I guess I'm the type who goes to a cafe with friends and likes to actually talk to my friends not sit on internet like an asocial person and gawk at internet stuff.

I guess having portable always available internet is fun - but smartphones and even ordinary phones do that. And they fit in a pocket. This stupid thing is big. You have to lug it around. You say watch movies on it? Well I have a plasma which beats any S-IPS display. Why should I watch movies on the iPad? Ok I can read books - except the display is not transreflective or E-ink.

It's a nice webbrowser, ebook reader, movie watcher - but it's crippled. I can't download and watch. I have to transcode. It won't play subtitles either. I can watch with subtitles on a Cowon. Sure Cowon is an S-IPS screen too at 800x480 res and iPhone size screen but
I can put it in my pocket. I don't need to lug it around with me. The iPad has very obvious good and bad points and so it's just another device - this time Apple partnered with some people to enrich the experience and that's the only good thing about it.

Peter, I am having a hard time trying to understand why, if you hate Apple products so much, that you prowl this Apple forum ??? I don't care much for windoze or PC, so I have never been on their forums - I have no need for it, and don't feel the need to go onto their forum and slander their OS of choice. It's their choice to love windows, and I respect that. Please be mature enough to respect the decisions of people who wish to discuss the virtues of Apple.

Your assertion that owning an iPad is "asocial" is ridiculous, how can you assume what any one person does with his or her time, if you don't know the person ? I see you are a "super grandmaster" on this site - does that mean that I can now assume that you are "asocial" because you spend so much of your time buried in your computer on this site ?

In closing, if you don't have anything positive to add, then please be mature enough to rather spend your time on the forums where you can share some positive input.

I see China has come out with the iPed.

We are having a discussion. BTW it's not slander. I fail to understand why you are ABUSIVE and ATTACK anyone who disagrees with you. Slander is a negative term - you may as well call me a LIAR, a CRIMINAL or a TERRORIST too.

Owning an iPad is not asocial - you didn't understand - but going to a Starbucks with an iPad/laptop to sit and drink coffee while and going there primarily for that purpose is a bit asocial to me. Cafes are places to meet up with others at least European cafes are like that. Maybe the US has a different groupthink about it but it smacks of asocial behaviour. A person has internet at home, a big keyboard, a bigger, better screen and they go out lugging a laptop/iPad to a shopping mall to sit in a Starbucks and do exactly the same thing they could do at home, or even worse go with a friend and then totally ignore them while they check their FaceBook or Twitter.

In closing, if you don't have anything positive to add, then please be mature enough to rather spend your time on the forums where you can share some positive input.
Thank you Mr Censor. Your response was to attack me. Good going.

If something makes you uncomfortable, don't feel obliged you have to answer. Also don't feel I call you 'asocial' because I question a trend, a trend brought about by movies and marketing. I have concerns and put them here because this is a FORUM and not a private discussion for fans only. The iPad has a great number of drawbacks and I question them here only to be insulted. Please try to refrain from personal insults or comments.

I like Apple products therefore I will be biased towards everything they bring out, especially since today is a BIG DAY for Fanboys -

- I'm will be getting an iPad when I got to the UK in a month and I will buy a iPhone 4G/HD if its available.

Peter, I am fully aware that there could be better products out there and good for them, but do they put has much effort into marketing and advertising? and do they create as much HYPE about a product??? I think not...I respect your opinion (TRUTHFULLY)!

I think the saying "Each to his own" is quite correct within this discussion.

Enjoy the WWDC stream tonight fanboi's :)http://www.macrumorslive.com/

Be careful buying one in the UK, as far as I know they are network locked there.
