Wish they would support devices bought in different countries, might as well take an iPhone to Samsung, the support you get from iStores or whatever they are called in SA.

Core and the lot in S.A. really suck. The apple warranties are international.

Allow me to gloat some more. 
Today I took my old iPhone 3G to the Regent Street Apple Store (London). This phone has had a tough life, sustained many drops, including accidently getting flung down two flights of granite stairs. The body had a few cracks and I suspect the radio part (or maybe the antenna connection) got damaged because GPS doesn't work and mobile/data/wifi reception came and went with no apparent pattern.
So I explained all the problems to the Genius bar dude, and asked if he could quote me on the repairs. £140, which is less than I expected. But, they did not repair it. They just gave me a new one. And not a new 3G, no! A new 3GS!
The only disappointment is that, the reason I wanted it fixed up was to load iDroid, which of course doesn't support the 3GS. Oh well...

Worked perfectly for two years, and was two years out of warranty? How short are they?

Looking at the iDroid support page, I'm not missing much - even on the 3G half the stuff don't work.koffiejunkie

I bought it second hand, with about a month left on the (one year) warranty.
Bit of topic, I bought my 1st Mac from za store, it was a G5 Mac pro, every time MAc was on for plus minus 2 hours it crashed when using graphics applications, the replaced the logic board, graphics card and eventualy the whole computer, no luck, read on Apple foums that this model had factory defualt, showed this to zastore's manager who did not want to belove it. My father insisted on a refund and even though the computer was a few months old allready they refunded it.
