Apple TV 4K (2021 vs 2022)

 Only in your head, but if that works for you.

You just need to argue, and need to get the last word, or be the victim if you cannot.

Your ignorance is staggering.

In a normal conversation with normal people, saying ‘actively choosing WiFi ‘ isn’t an issue and generally doesn’t cause an argument.

You have multiple Ubiquit right?

Correct.

Pretty old school ones at this point.

Like OP (to this argument) has illustrated numerous times now he has solid wireless distribution where the Apple TV is going.

My wireless network and how it’s constructed has nothing to do with whether his Apple TV should be wired or not.

Let us remind you how this started then…

I think anyone that actively chooses WiFi over Ethernet should have their MyBroadband membership revoked !

You also made a statement that wired is more secure…which is patently false.

One of the reasons many companies go wireless is the built-in security it brings for all traffic being encrypted as opposed to open Ethernet points where anyone can just Jack in unseen.

You just cannot help yourself.

Calm down and go read your own posts slowly, you will see a clear pattern.

So a wireless network is more secure than a physical port ?

I’ve never heard that.

Do you run open Ethernet ports at your office for your 2500 staff ? No building security *and* open ports?

Ignorance once again.

Here’s a hint…it’s incredibly simple for a bad actor to sneak a Raspberry Pi onto your network with a spare Ethernet port and zero hacking required. Behind that meeting room TV with USB power at the ready and nicely hidden away especially.

Wireless…you can’t just connect to it like that with little to no effort required.

At a baseline it’s inherently less secure and requires other mitigation like limiting physical access etc, which is ridiculously simple to get around with a little social engineering.

So you have multiple high performance APs? You get 400mbit in your toilet ?

And you think everyone has the same WiFi experience? Why do you think literally 1,000s of Mi users are buying USB to Ethernet?

I’m just asking you a question?

I’m going to use Investec as the example, pop in tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

PS I haven’t found a single article that says wireless are more secure. Do you have a link?

Yes.

With the excellent products available on the domestic market these days people can have far better connections even than that.

Don’t know who/what these Mi users are or what that even means but odds are they are doing something else very very wrong. Ethernet is an easy cop out.

OMG that a simple question can go so overboard.
As for the R900 save. It is actually not that simple. The tv this Apple tv is going to is an old HD LG tv. LOL so its probably overkill. I just thought that since we have 2 iphones(Me and son), two Ipad and a Macbook. Maybe get a Apple tv.
So it not really necessary. I could probably do with paying 1-1.5k less for another Ematic or Mi box or something that would still do a great job on the old tv. So going another R900 more for the full wifi and ethernet model is just not an option.
Getting the Apple tv now I was more thinking that I might let go of my pc and get a mac mini sometime and I like to watch some of my photos I take on tv screen, so between phone and if I get mac mini later, there should probably be easy way to link those devices with the Apple tv.

Maybe they don’t have multiple high end APs? Maybe they are using Plex with backup movies?

And another question. Can you store and watch normal photos on an Apple tv. So I can wifi them from the camera to the apple tv and watch it on tv?

So I’m not even going to go on about the WiFi thing anymore. To me, I’d get an Ethernet port

Being ‘new’ to the ecosystem, I like the interaction between iPhone and ATV. Specifically colour balance .

I like the photos from iCloud on the TV as well - but adding albums to iCloud really screwed things up on my photos. Regardless, pretty cool

And I was kindly given an old Mac Mini that’s getting an SSD this week to speed it up. Will be trying iCloud on it as well in order to sync everything. Something I found really cool was Airdrop to the Mac . But it didn’t recognise HEIC format of photos, oddly

I’ve heard Google Photos is still better - but I want to see myself and give the ecosystem a chance

Ask yourself a simple question.

What have you got in place to mitigate someone connecting directly to your home network with a physical Ethernet cable? What’s going to stop them getting open access to everything once they are on the network.

Now ask yourself if anyone can simply do the same thing with your wireless network even though it’s being broadcast across your entire property constantly.

Simple answer is wireless is inherently more secure as a base technology and not as easily exploitable.

Now obviously large enterprises like Investec with a mind on security have many other systems in place to address this and it shouldn’t be an issue, but the reality is you can walk into many a small business with malicious intent and man in the middle their entire network for days on end with nobody being any wiser to it, whereas the same isn’t nearly as simple to achieve with wireless.

Definitely the way to go for Airplay alone as you can simply beam stuff across to it.

May very well find yourself sitting with the MacBook using the TV as a second screen as I often do.

Not directly like that no.

You can show your iCloud Photo Library on the Apple TV but would require syncing that to Mac/iPhone first of course.

However if you don’t use iCloud for some reason you can just Airplay anything from your other Apple devices to the Apple TV so indirectly achieve the same thing.
