Apple TV vs LIT TV vs blackBOX

Would it not be more useful to know what streaming platforms each device supports? Netflix, Showmax, Dstv Now, Kodi, etc.? Hardware specs alone don't tell me which services I can use with it... Would be rather pointless getting the best device only to find it is limited to a specific streaming service.
 
R999 for what's essentially a locked Roku 2? :wtf:

Hard-pass.

R650 for a much newer Roku Express delivered to SA by Amazon.
 
hands down for Legal streaming a non Kwese Roku device is the best and easy to use.
if Kodi is Needed and a little "grey" streaming is needed the LIT/Mibox is the way to go.
if you have to much money and no technical "know how" go for Apple - scratch that get a Roku 4 device your technical friends will not think you are a douche. :)

Can’t comment on the Roku/Kwese box but I have a LIT and it’s a piece of **** compared to the Apple TV.

Roku doesn’t seem any different from the ATV from what I’ve seen.

You get what you pay for and it as nothing to do with level of technical know how, the Apple TV is simply a better product.

And I am your technical friends so not sure how that would make you a douche.

I am yet to see an Smart TV that is on par with a brand name external media player box.

They are all either slow and clunky or missing some feature or app.

I’ll still be using my ATV even with a brand new top of the range TV.
 
I think an article highlighting the different services available and the resolutions at which they are available (not always the same as the box's resolution) would be much more valuable.

And how about some hands-on impressions? Comparisons in setup, usability, UI and so on?

They could have done so much more with this article.

Nothing wrong with my Tizen TV even youtube casting works. Have a Mygica for piracy reasons only and perhaps Google Play music.

Yeah I can YouTube cast to my Samsung as well.

But as you say other reasons and Google Play Music is exactly the kind of thing that is lacking.

So why not just stick to a singular external device for everything? If you need to buy one anyway.


A more interesting argument or all these things is that if you were ready to spend R2500 odd on a Media Player then why not throw a little more money at it and buy a console.

Okay so it’s a pretty rubbish TV then when it comes to performance and calibration and such.

A nice option if you aren’t anal about picture quality.

I do actually recall seeing the brand on Takealot a while ago.

Something to keep an eye on.

According to people who own Sinotec tv's(most of the sinotec tv's are rebranded skyworth tv's), the picture quality is good. To be honest you can't go wrong if you pick a tv with an IPS panel because most brands get their IPS Panels from LG

LG IPS panels are considered the lowest picture quality in the industry which is exactly why I made the statement.

People who own Sinotecs didn’t care for picture quality in the first place so it’s no surprise they would consider it good enough.

IPS in general isn’t good for TV.
