Apple TV+

didnt see enough content to justify that monthly charge. ill check out the trial but if they dont have alot of kiddie stuff then its dead in the water for me. although im looking to get a 4th gen apple tv on black friday.

the kid just watches showmax at the moment so luckily no pressure to look for alternatives...

Disney plus will be a game changer launching in US on Monday but it won’t be available in SA for a while .

Chromecast was acting up so finally decided just to get an Apple TV and got a free year as well.

Same here. Gave the Chromecast away as it was just pissing me off. Bought a new Apple TB whilst in Vegas and got the 1 year free sub.

Watched the first three episodes of "See" - seems decent. Waiting for the next episodes to come out. :D

Apple TV+ praised for its high bitrate streaming video quality

Whatever you think of the material on offer, you can’t really deny that Apple TV+ shows look amazing. With most TV+ content offering 4K HDR video and Dolby Atmos sound, Apple is flexing its CDN muscles with its new streaming service.

In a forum post, FlatpanelsHD editor-in-chief Rasmus Larsen has now put some numbers to the claims.

Rasmus Larsen writes that TV+ shows have the highest streaming quality for 4K out of all the services on the market at the moment, and eclipses most iTunes movies in bit rates.

Apple TV+ drama SEE hit highs of 41 Mbps with an average bitrate of 29 Mbps when streaming using an Apple TV 4K. Even the Snoopy cartoon recorded a 13Mbps average, which is high given it is a 2D cartoon with a relatively limited color palette.

This is about half the size of a Hollywood movie recorded on UHD Bluray media. Blurays have always offered the best quality and lowest compression but the stats for Apple TV+ really are impressive for a streaming service.

Hopefully this means that Netflix will step up to the plate...
Maybe I am not a videophile ( or whatever the correct term is) or maybe it's just my poor broadband, but I thought the Netflix approach is better. Compression magic to allow you stream 4K with internet speeds that are within the reach of many.

I understand - but they adapt it to your line speed with a maximum of 15Mbps.

They should raise that maximum bitrate for those that can achieve it - and those that can't, won't know any different anyhow

I’m enjoying The Morning Show. Don’t think it’s worth 84.99 / month for so few shows. So I ain’t going to add that to my current subs. Will make another plan.

Did u need to input your cc details in order to use free trial? Would also like to watch the morning show

I made another plan. Not proud of it. But the infrequency of the shows I wanna see. Simply can’t justify the cost. I will say I am liking the morning show. But not for 85 bucks. If that was the only option for me to see it, then I would give it a miss. Would wait till I got a new device.

Didn't sign up.

Binged all 5 episodes (that are out) of The Morning Show. Pretty good actually, good casting & a relatively tight script. "Sold" for the most part.

PS: Jen An is still lovely to watch & fine.

New survey shows Apple TV+ is struggling in areas that matter to viewers

Apple TV+ is a place for original content. There isn’t a huge library of movies or TV from third-party sources, something you’d find on the likes of Netflix or offered by Amazon. And Apple TV+ doesn’t have the extensive backlog of content like Disney+.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, all things considered, and it shows that Apple TV+ has a gigantic hill to climb if it wants to be perceived as a competitor to those other options. Or, more importantly, if it wants to be a viable option for consumers to spend their money on compared to the other options.

Apple TV+, it’s worth noting, is “only” $4.99 per month, and that’s if you aren’t already getting a year’s worth of service for free. That’s cheaper than some other options out there, but one could easily point to the fact that $4.99 per month doesn’t get you a lot to watch. At least not right now.

A new survey shows that Apple TV+ is suffering in other areas, too, many of them potentially very important to consumers. The survey was conducted in December of 2019 in a partnership between YouGov and Variety Intelligent Platform (VIP), via Variety. It gathered the feedback of 1,182 adults in the United States.

So let’s just start with the big one: satisfaction. It’s safe to say that Disney+, the streaming option that launched in the same month as Apple TV+, is a hit. The graph below shows that for respondents who gave each service a score of 4 or 5 (5 being the highest), 76% are very satisfied with Disney+.

Apple TV+ sits at just 48%.

In between them is Netflix at 74%, Amazon Prime Video at 66%, and Hulu at 64%.

...I've started to use iTunes as my MaS*, like steam with games and getting rid of all (well too few) retail versions of my movie lib. I suppose when power and or internet goes out so does movie night. lol.

As for Apple TV+, well See was actually good as a whole, but I'm not sure about the rest.

*Movies as a service.

The Morning Show? It was pretty strong imo. Definitely keen on S2.

Apple shuts down production on all active Apple TV+ series, including ‘For All Mankin’, ‘See’, and ‘Servant’

In what’s probably the least surprising move by Apple as of late, it’s being reported that all active productions for Apple TV+ are, well, not active.

Deadline has the report, detailing how Apple has made the decision, along with corresponding production companies, to shut down production of all active Apple TV+ series currently in the works. That includes the upcoming second seasons of Servant, See, For All Mankind, and Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. In addition to that, the upcoming limited series Lisey’s Story has also seen its production shut down for the time being.

So, up to this point, we’ve heard about production shut downs for Foundation and The Morning Show.
