i suppose for lightweight stuff you do the AppleTV would suffice. i ripped all my Blu-Ray movies in FullHD 1080P no compression,streamed to my iXtreamer or my Samsung Blu-Ray Player, with no stuttering.i am in favor of the Appletv but like i said its a little under power for what i do. i have XMBC and Plex on my HDMI Mac Mini, and the Mini even plays the blu-ray movies with no stuttering, only problem theres no HD Audio codec for Mac,so i get DTS 5.1 core audio instead of DTS-HD MA, but thats where the Xtreamer comes in handy.

Impressive. Yes, for that level of video geekness the Apple TV would not be sufficient ;-)
