Apple iPhone 16e announced

Apple introduced a new low-end smartphone called the iPhone 16e priced at $599 (R11,088), aiming to revive growth after a sluggish holiday season.

The rebranded device goes on sale 28 February and will cost $170 (R3,147) more than the $429 (R7,940) iPhone SE that it replaces. Preorders for the phone begin 21 February.

Some curious decisions being made on this model. No MagSafe being the most egregious.

Oh, and the price...

I also think the price is a problem. But also think that as soon as we get iPhone 17 this one will drop below $500 and then sales will take off.

The problem is that it also lacks the following features:
  • +800nits brightness ( @epah , everything is about the nits? )
  • 12-megapixel Ultra Wide camera
  • Photographic Styles (Macro photography | Spatial photos and videos | Cinematic mode for recording videos with shallow depth of field | Action mode)
  • Thread connectivity
  • Ultra Wideband chip for Precision Finding (finding Apple Tag)
  • Magsafe (only 7.5W Qi wireless charging is supported)

Well its a budget iPhone so you should not expect everything
They should have dropped the RAM(and AI) and made it cheaper.
People buying SE's don't care for all these funny things, they just want to call, Whatsapp and maybe a email or two on an Apple that works properly.

IMO the rest aside, the lack of precision finding is a deal-breaker. I don't agree on dropping the RAM though. The AI, sure.

No iPhone has ever had MagSafe connector; so why would they start now? Especially when everyone is pushing for universal charging ports.

Every iphone since the 12 (excluding the SE) has had Magsafe

EDIT:

Magsafe...

No magsafe also means no magsafe accessories.
