Apple Watch thread

Fair enough on your point that one moves around to do other things, and I suppose people have different reasons for wanting the screen to remain dark, in different scenarios - it help saves battery power too.

But come to think of it, the option "Wake Screen on Wrist Raise" has been available already in the past, to achieve the same effect. Theater mode is basically only a shortcut of an existing feature. Instead of going through various menus to enable/disable the raise to wake function, and then also having to enable/disable silent mode, you now click one button to achieve all of that.

So as a shortcut to the above, I understand the convenience factor, and people's positive reaction to it.

You've got it spot on now ;)

For Apple to make a big hoo-ha about it, and calling it fancy names, is a little funny, that is all I'm saying - and this coming from a huge Apple fanboy.

The same could be said for any shortcut feature in an OS.

Any disadvantage in buying the series 2 Nike Plus version rather than the normal series 2 if I don't really plan to use the Nike app etc? Can I basically just ignore the Nike things and go on as if it's a normal Apple Watch?
I can get the Nike Plus version at a good price.

See in the classifieds section that you acquired a series 2...did you get a Nike+ version?

As far as I understand, it just has the extra exclusive Nike watch faces, as well as the Volt band and Nike Run app, but it has all the normal watch faces too, and of course you can install any band in any case, so you can definitely use it as a "normal" Apple Watch. Conversely, you can install a Volt band and the Nike Run app on a normal model, you just won't have the Nike faces.

Quite true. Myself, I love it but can't help laughing at it too. I'm an Apple sucker and I admit it :D

Same here, I just love their products, I have a iMac, am on my third iPhone and just got a Apple Watch series 2 this morning.

Also on my third iPhone (6S), third iPad (Pro 9.7"), original series Watch and iPod nano...haven't had a single day's problem with any one of them.

A day in and the only disappointment so far is no Whatsapp app for the watch. I would like to listen and reply directly to voice messages from the watch. Of course, this isn't Apple's fault at all, so I actually have no complaints about the watch yet.

Yeah WhatsApp has always been slow to adopt new Apple APIs.

A week in and the only negative observation I can make so far is the increased drain on my iPhone's battery, I thought the watch will have the opposite effect because I'm not using my phone so much anymore simply to check time or for notifications.
Quick Google told me some people are experiencing this worse than others depending on use.

Firstly I took Phone off my watch face since this caused the Phone app to use a lot of battery according to the stats on my iPhone.
Secondly I read that you must force quit the Watch app on your phone each time you are finished using it, this also seams to have made a difference.

Do you have any more tips?

I didn't see any increase in battery use after buying the watch, in fact, checking the battery stats on the iPhone and the watch doesn't show up at all and the phone app usage is no different to before I got the watch.

The only thing I don't do is allow the watch to sync email.

Think it's time for a new look, are the third party Watch bands any good? Apple's bands are just crazy expensive, anyone tried a third party one with success?
I have a 42mm series 2

In addition to discovering exclusive iPhone XS details today, 9to5Mac can exclusively share the first look at the new Apple Watch Series 4. This is the new Apple Watch that we believe Apple will unveil at its special event announced earlier today.

The biggest change is the all-new edge-to-edge display. Apple has been rumored to be working on ~15% bigger displays for both sizes of Apple Watch — that rumor has been confirmed in the images we’ve discovered. As expected, Apple has achieved this by dramatically reducing the bezel size around the watch display.

In addition to taking the display edge-to-edge, we’re also looking at a brand new watch face capable of showing way more information than the current faces offered. The analog watch face shows a total of eight complications around the time and within the clock hands. While we haven’t seen a new digital face yet, it’s likely that Apple has designed more new watch faces to take advantage of the larger display.

Pretty. Nice watch face. Still don't want a band on my arm though.
