Apple Watch thread

I'm more interested in the price reduction on the current model trickling down our way.

Are you referring to those already in circulation or the Series 1 with the dual core processor?

Any of you guys wear the smaller one?

I had the smaller one. The screen is fine but the bigger one will probably make it easier to use...

There isn't really much you can do on the watch though to be honest so the bigger screen won't be so necessary

Apparently watchOS 3 is a huge improvement though? Supposed to be far snappier, and allows for more use out of 3rd party apps?

Realistically though, how much more can you do on a watch? :D. The speed was fine IMO but faster is obviously better...

I installed watchOS 3 yesterday, unfortunately not a huge improvement. The new watch faces and other minor changes are nice, but performance feels pretty much the same. The way they advertised the increase in performance (recently used apps in the new "dock" gets updated constantly and kept ready to launch instantly), does feel legit, but in the end I expected more.

Definitely does not feel like a new watch (which is what Apple promised)

Depends on size of wrist. I have the smaller one and it's ok especially with survivor case on it (to take bumps and falls/cycling X gazillion) which makes it look more manly and less flashy so people don't notice u wearing a 'smart watch'.

I'd say it's a combo of wrist size and strap.. Yes strap.. If you have a wrap around type or slightly bulkier strap a small one doesn't look as bad.

In general though, unless you a skinny/slim male person you gonna need a 42mm one else it will look a bit girly due to size without a cover as the watch is a unisex design so smaller just has that effect.

To quantify this.. Uhm if you put on the 38mm with sport strap and a tight fit is > 4 holes on the strap you might wanna see what the bigger one looks like. Assuming fingers are proportionally bigger it will be trickier too. (I use 3 for tight fit/activity and daily 4th hole)

Ps. The Survivor cover basically makes the watch a few mil bigger than frame edge making the watch look bigger. Personally I don't wear watch without it as it just looks a bit girly but without cover.. I'd have gone for the bigger one.. With cover nope because then it would get hit a lot more. I'd say the square face with cover needs to occupy +/- 70% wrist surface width size to look ok with small one else it just looks wrong. So try and see.. I wonder if they will make larger one for people with really thick wrists.

Depends.. I think from app pov they wanna basically make light weight apps which are Independant of the iPhone. Currently majority of apps aren't Independant due to processor limitations and of cause background processing and time open limits till now.

I reckon if the processor proves beefier (which its should) and the relaxation of limits on apps happens.. It might be worth changing to new one or waiting for revision 3 as I reckon, like the App Store, once developers start going that route en mass it will make the current version a bit too slow to do anything beyond viewing.. Kinda like the ATV2/3 vs new one.. Old ones are get nowadays as AirPlay devices and that's it.

I'm hoping the Apple Watch cycle out of hardware is 5yrs

My reasoning for maybe wanting smaller is that because I ride a bike I wear gloves every day and so it would hopefully mean keeping it on.

Guess I'll have to go test with my full kit on.

From what I read in the last while, there is apparently quite a difference in battery life between the small and big watches even though Apple doesn't say so. For that reason alone if ever getting a watch I will automatically go for the big one. Plus I'm anyway quite a big guy, so a small little watch on my wrist will just look wrong. I never actually compared them side by side on my wrist and since I'm now officially considering a series 2, I think a trip to the iStore is in order.

Aah good point.

Didn't even consider that.

But surely either way you need to charge them every night?

Personally I'll probably charge it every night anyway as I do with my iPhone, but I read of some people easily getting 2 days, I guess it all depends on your use.

Yeah that's kind of my logic.

As long as the lesser of the two gets through a full day I would charge it regardless.

But waiting to see if the new one is any better.

I charge my 42mm one every second day. Yes, it all depends on how much you use it, but under normal circumstances it doesn't perform too bad at all.

Maybe one day...a watch ⌚

Safely? Or was it dead as a door nail by then?

I can do that if i disable the auto light up on tilt.. depends tho. in general per day i use about 40-60% power unless i go to gym which pushes it up more or cycling for a few hours = kills in handful hours of cycling.
