Apple Watch thread

First day with Always-On on wasn't encouraging. After 17:53 hours it was down to 31%. I'm giving it a second day with it on.
Is this an Apple Watch with Cellular? Were you away from your iPhone for a while? Cellular does train the battery rapidly. Always On doesn't make much of a difference in my experience.

It's a Series 8 with cellular but it hasn't been activated and I'm rarely far from my phone (or wifi).

Does anyone daily the 44mm SE 2nd gen? How good or bad is the battery life? How has the experience been since you purchased it?

Gave it a second and a third day with interesting results. 50% after 17:33 hours and 31% again yesterday after 17:09 hours.

I ended up taking the R30/months 500mb topup package from MTN, the absolute cheapest option out their and they the only provider who supports eSIM for both iPhone and AppleWatch, so I am using it as a secondary line with my prepaid physical sim as the main line.

Did you manage to get a eSim on the Topup package ?
I was told eSim only available on a normal contract

For MTN, yeah was easy, eSIM is available on all post paid options.

I am on MTN Choice 1GB

So far Always-On off has a clear advantage.

That’s more confusing than revealing sadly.

I tried it back when you first asked again, and yeah my ultra that usually does like 10, 20% if I have a GPS activity for the day was also south of 50% at days end, that’s like 2-2,5X it’s normal battery usage.

I'll see how it looks after another week or so.

Yeah will take time to get scientifically valuable data.

I spent a month testing always on vs timer for my geyser and in the end it was 20-25% more energy efficient to use a timer, but you needed the month at least to get that avg.

I'm not sure I really need "scientifically valuable data". It's all based on my usage so it's not going to be of much use to anyone else.

Yeah, but it’s scientifically valuable to you, right now it’s meaningless.

There's a trend emerging - with an average of 37% vs 57% Always-on is looking like a battery suck.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t really get the Always On feature.

If one is wearing a watch, you have to raise your arm to look at the time, then the display comes on anyway.

Part of the appeal of a digital watch to me is the screen being off when not in use.

I think it’s more the “desk” thing, like at your desk you also have to raise your watch to see it, with always on at least you can glance at the time.

At least that’s the only logic I use case I can think of.

Me neither. That said I've got nothing against it apart from any potential hit on the battery life.

For me it’s the case that the wake up is a bit fiddly and doesn’t always work and so having it Always On removes that annoyance.

But yeah not a massive game changer.

What Apple actually needs to do is make the Always On setting part of the watch face. Then if you want it always on just swipe to that watch face.
