I'm trying to connect my PC > media streamer directly via 100mbps ethernet. I've purchased a metre of crossed ethernet cable and plugged in both units ... I get the lights and the PC shows an icon:

'aquiring network address' ... a few seconds later it simply says 'network cable unplugged' and a few seconds later loops to aquiring network address. It doesn't do anything :/

What could the hassle be?

is the PC set up to acquire IP address automatically? I think you should set it manually since you don't work through a router.

As Goobie said - there's no DHCP server to assign an IP to your machine. Set the IP address for your pc and the media streamer manually.

Ex 192.168.0.10 for your PC and 192.168.0.11 for your media streamer

Yeah, try this on your PC:

Use the following IP address:
IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: Leave blank

Do the same for your media streamer, but use the following IP address:
IP address: 192.168.0.2

Hope this helps :)

I think it was the cable that was fauly actually :/ Before I tried manally setting IPs, I return the BRAND NEW cable and things seem ok now ;)

Thanks though!
