Aramex global shopper

So I got this email now.

I sent my ID number and my PayPal receipt.

They now state I need to send proof of payment.... I don't understand because I only have my PayPal receipt which I emailed them.
 
Before now, everything R500 and less was allowed to go through without customs showing an interest.
Then, some bright spark decided that EVERYTHING was going to be stopped.
This immediately caused delays in Johannesburg, causing us to wait for our parcels. I get about 5 parcels a day, and the majority of my shipments have taken 3 or more weeks to leave JHB.
The sad thing for me is that I import boards for flat screen TV's. All have no duty as they are PC Boards, a television being almost a computer nowadays. Because customs is stopping everything, I am being charged 15% VAT on every shipment. This is seriously impacting my bottom line.
Nearly every 3rd shipment requires me to send invoice and proof of payment , further delaying things. Aramex have a copy of my importers code, so there is no problem there.
Finally, after weeks of having things delayed and paying extra money for VAT, I see parcels moving faster. About 50% of my shipments are going through unmolested by SARS, and some are taking about 10 days to reach me.
I used to receive Shanghai orders in 6 days, so I see improvement.
 
I'm fuming with these people. After struggling the whole last 2 weeks for any sort of update. I get a call from Olivia promising me my parcel will arrive Monday and sorry for the confusion. Today comes and goes and no updates and no one can tell me what went wrong again.
I am so angry!!

Beware of the Aramex Global Shopper app. If you have customs duty owing it tends not to show it. It shows the shipping amount only as current, an amount you could have paid days ago. If you had forgotten you had paid for shipping previously, and paid the amount owing as requested, you would have underpaid.
Rather use the online Aramex Global Shopper webpage to pay anything.
The Shop & Ship app also seems to be accurate at the moment, but as this is the international app, the South African customs duty always requires checking before you pay.
 
Does the 3 parcels a year limit actually get enforced? If so, that's got to be one of the most retarded things I've ever heard of.

Also, does it count it you're importing low value items less than R500 that don't go through customs?
 
I have a similar question the above post.

My item just got delivered today and I wasn't charged any customs only aramex delivery fee.

So now does this mean I have two imports left before a code is needed or because I wasn't charged customs it won't be required?
 
They're sending me something I didn't order.

When the first email came through (couple weeks ago) to say that they received a parcel without a code, the website had an option to confirm it was mine.

I did not click the button to confirm mine, but today I get an email saying it's being sent to Johannesburg.

Wtf?

If you have ordered anything recently and this is in addition to the order you placed... stay quiet.
Reason why I said this is that a year ago I ordered a Netgear modem from Ebay.
I was told by Aramex it was on its way.
Two days later I get another Aramex tracking number.
I go WTF?
Truesbob, the supplier sent two modems. It's like they lost track of the order, thought they hadn't sent it, and re-sent it.
It was Christmas time, and I guess they got overwhelmed with orders.
Don't ask where the 2nd modem is now (trying not to look at bookshelf)....

I have never heard of anyone being fined for not adhering to the 3 parcel a year rule.
Not to say you won't be the first one fined...

Regarding the R500 or lower parcels - if you're lucky they fly through unmolested by customs. Beware of spot-checks. Customs love spot checking low value parcels. It means delays + 15 % VAT on invoice total + R50 for Aramex clearance. Bloody irritating, and happens quite often.
Finally, if you have two low value parcels coming through at the same time, customs will treat them as one parcel and charge duty accordingly.

I went WTF? Customs inspect everything anyway. (Sounds like extortion) :unsure:
I queried it.
Her reply:
Customs usually just checks the documents but for an inspection the charge is R160.

I never asked for an inspection! (I'm still thinking extortion, R160 off everyone and they're looking good.)

My latest email to her:
I will only pay this when I receive an official Aramex invoice.

I wonder what her reply will be?
Meanwhile my shipment is gathering dust in Johannesburg somewhere. :mad:

sounds ridiculous! Imagine SARS charging me to evaluate my tax return?
 
How big is this customs queue now at ags jhb? Have a package waiting there since the 16th now, which is longer than I used to wait.

Good luck. I struggled like mad with my parcel. It sat in customs for 8 days and nothing was done at all in that time. I've never had a struggle with them before this
