ARC Raiders

met another south african in arc raiders yesterday on way to extraction, parted ways so i could extract. Extract was mined/camped and i was knocked down. Guess who came in and saved the day before i was ended and i got to extract. True south african hero whoever you are

What's a good way to try to be friendly with solos or other teams without putting oneself at a major disadvantage.

Some teams or solos will pretend to be friendly buying themselves time to back stab and strike at the right moment. Others will just not answer of course and then just attack.

I'm not keen on us resorting to attacking on sight but with our bad ZA pings we're then even more at a disadvantage.

Duos and Trios?

99% PVP. Don't even try.

Solos:

Mixed bag. I default to not shooting and using VOIP to chat with folks, but also keep something between us while talking so a potshot isn't easily done. Then make sure we go our own ways / get distance from eachother.

Some might chat very friendly only to stab you in the back the moment you're vulnerable, so it's really a case by case situation and having to put out an element of trust.
If there's several people in close proximity it can help keep eachother honest, but only if you can all see oneanother.

If alone in a room with one other, it's his word against yours as to who broke the ceasefire and the thirdparty will probably trust the smoother talker.

It's a really fun social experiment of sorts, and cuts to the meat of what Rust brings without having to put in 1-2k hours.

Yeah always watch your back, we've been having a lot of fun doing free loadout trios on stella montis and just blasting everyone we see. Rounds are usually short as we die, but still fun.

Very.

It's probably the most intriguing experience the game has to offer. Groups are primarily PVP without questions.
Solo there's more often than not a voice chat with fellow players, negotiating a potential ceasefire or treachery.

Duos or Trios with "fill group" is also a good way to meet new potential friends to add to your friendlist.

i think solos is far better, far more enjoy the tension of trying to trust someone than the immediate shoot out that happens in PVP (where SA ping disadvantages us)

I think we need to petition the devs to give us ZA servers, after all we paid much more for this game relative to the strength/weakness of our currency that developed nations paid. I'd like to think with ZA servers we might be friendlier to each other as well
:p

Well, then there's this guy who seems to be ZA based:

The more I see of this game the more keen I am to get it

What is local (South Africa) ping like?

Since I am no longer on cabled internet anything with no local servers is basically unplayable

Latency is certainly not great for us. In a peek-a-boo battle with snipers around corners etc you can find yourself getting shot without being able to return fire in time due to latency.

In a more open terrain scenario it's not too bad and we don't feel at a disadvantage, but peek-sniping has had me fuming a few times. Grenades / tactics win most of the time though.

So far my experience has been positive, I've only come across 1 or 2 ***** so far but I'm now only on level 12.

These ARCs though . . . I'm more scared of them :whistling:

I didn't actually play solo mode until 2.5 weeks ago, was just always playing with friends duos or trios. Solo mode has been good to try things out on my own always trying to be friendly, even on Stella Montis where only one psycho killed me for no reason after he was chasing some other guy I suppose and he asked me where the other guy went, I said 'he went down there' pointing to the zipline going to the lower level, he mumbled something, perhaps accusing me of tricking him, then shot and downed me, and ran off without KO'ing me or looting my corpse. I was trying Stella going in with a basic looting augment and shield regen + bandages but no weapon and everyone else was friendly.

The latest patch seems to be dropping more blueprints, though I've only tried Buried City really so far.

DON'T SHOOT!

Oh man, I'm having so much fun in the friendly lobbies, the crazy people you meet, the dance-offs, totally whack! Of course you get that one who always has to spoil the party but although my pvp skills suck, 9 times out of 10 I can evade them.

Also, I think they nerfed the blueprints a bit.

Also . . .

Those damn Rockateers!
I've been avoiding solo'ing the big arc for fear of being third partied whilst attempting it or looting the remains, but it's time I just bite the bullet, running out of inventory space in any event so might as well use resources up doing something challenging.

I've been solo'ing from the start, never really had any issues, for the most part, people are generally friendly when you use the emote wheel of your mic, so loot sharing has always or 90% of the time gone pretty well.

Thanks, between me and the odd random solo I managed to take down a bastion and a bombadier, so finally got my Refiner to level 3 and I just need 2 more bastion cells.

There's just so many items to collect and quest paths to follow, I am far away from completing the expedition so it will have to be the next one for me that I go on. My coins are sitting at 1.2mil only, I'm probably not being single minded enough in playing round after round, spending too much time making sure I go in with the right equipment and trying to chase feats each day.

Man, those Bombadiers are insane, the fact that you have to fight off its minion spotters as well just gets me most times, maybe I should use a Hullcracker and some wolfpacks next time.

I finally got the achievement/trophy Death From Above - deal 50 damage while on top of a rockateer, been trying for a while now.

Wolf makes very short work of them, but you'll be surprised how easy it is to take them down with a trio using only Ferros / Anvils while its far away.

If using Ferros/Anvils it seems like the best approach is to take turns drawing aggro then when it's focused on your squadmates fire away?
