Archive hard drive - are they worth it ?

excuse my noobiness

can i use an archive hard drive as a normal storage drive in my pc that is on 24/7 ?

just want to know the pros and cons of using a drive such as this in my desktop thats never sleeps

the drive i'm talking about is this one:

Seagate ST8000AS0002 S-Series Shingled 3.5" Hard Drive (SATA III)(8TB)

i wanted to purchase one and leave it running in my pc for my daily downloads

I have 2 of those in my Microserver and they work like a charm.

Write speed to them is not consistent, anything from 30MB/s to 100MB/s.

Read speed is as fast as a normal disk, so no problems there.

If I can make a recommendation: have all your temporary stuff on a normal drive, eg your operating system, incomplete downloads, etc. and send your completed downloads to the Archive drive.

That is how I set up my side and it works perfectly.

Will any normal enclosure i buy work with this archive hdd?
