So I dropped my phone yesterday and smashed the screen. Completely stuffed.

I have an upgrade due to me but wanted to look at what was available from FNB

I was looking at the G3 or G4 and it seems like its much more expensive to go with FNB ? Its like R299 for the G3 and R375 for the G4 and they don't include any airtime/data. That said the FNB airtime contracts are very good.

ON the cheapest VC contract the G4 is R429 pm and R7899 cash, with FNB you end up paying 9k.

So what is the real befit to getting these devices with FNB ? do you get ebucks back ? I can't see if you do.
Are there no combined contracts with FNB ? (cell and airtime)

They used to be a little bit cheaper. Now you're better off going with a Telkom Mobile deal for the same money, but with data included.

I bought a Macbook from them almost two years ago. The only issue for me is having to settle the device outright instead of paying extra towards it every month. With six months remaining, I'll most likely settle the remainder in 2 months.

You get 500 points towards your eBucks level. And I think they had some deal with Cell C but that data will be useless.

They used to work out cheaper when they started with the Apple products. Even paying monthly the total ended up being cheaper than buying it outright somewhere else. But that has all changed as of late I think.

I see the G4 deal includes a cover and 2 years of a google drive sub (100g)

I currently have a Drop box 100 gig that costs me 179, so if I move over to google that will probably be worth it ?

Meh. I'll have a look at TM

FNB deals are definitely not worth it any more. They've completely lost the plot.

Bought a Galaxy S4 couple years ago through them when it was still worth it ... paid R1500 less than the cheapest cash price I could find at that time. Good old days.

You are better off finding a nice deal online and using your credit card if you don't have the cash.

FNB do have combined deals with phone and contracts but you are signing up with the devil i.e. Cell C.

Takealot running a special now on the G4 for R7499, plus you can use eBucks as well reduce the price even further.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. CC is an option but might end up paying more in interest.

Not anymore. Not on platinum anyway.

Not on anything. I've been moved to Private and the deals are still crap. I got a device from them a couple of years ago and it was a good deal. I had a look for a device for my daughter and it was cheaper to get a cell contract with the free data and the device than from FNB.

Theyre getting more and more meh every day.

Worth it on PW. 100% of the monthly payment back in ebucks, up to R500.
Which gets you R830 worth of makro vouchers ;)

Agreed.. If you are on rewards level 5 and with private banking you get paid for taking the device except I go for the Checkers vouchers....

I (cell and airtime)

OR you could replace your own screen for a fraction of the price. Mine broke a few months ago, bought a screen from ebay, found a youtube video and replaced it no problem. I'm not technically inclined in any way. The best I do is build lego. The only crappy thing was waiting 3 weeks for the screen to arrive

Yes, repairing is an option but the three week wait and its a 2 year old phone. This is my work phone. Also the camera lense is scratched so thats one other thing thats a problem

hmmmm won't the work replace it? I try to avoid contracts, it's the devils work.

Maybe look on gumtree or carbonite for a sealed phone that you can buy for a lot cheaper.

FNB is once upon a time. I pad 2 was probably the only cheap thing they had back then. Right now they will screw you based on their established name

Short answer is no. Not worth it at all. Works out to being more expensive than taking it out on a contract. At least on a contract you get data etc.
