iv'e seen that many retailers are not carrying netbooks anymore. have they now stopped making them because i was thinking of getting one for websurfing and watching videos.

Ultrabooks are the new Netbooks, just much more expensive ;)

Whats in a name? These cheap windows 8 tablets with their detachable keyboards are the new netbooks.
I want to get one but i'm trying to find one with atleast 2GB ram they all have 1GB :(
Wonder what we'll see when windows 10 comes out.

To be fair...netbooks never really took off. I sadly got myself a netbook (don't know why...wasted money).

Ultrabooks are awesome though.

It's funny, I went to play with the new Macbook this weekend at the mall, and it feels like exactly what netbooks should have been. I think there's still a market for them but it will depend on manufacturers to make some compelling hardware. The true netbook was always a kludgy, awful user experience. The problem is that to use a hardware keyboard and full Windows at that screen size is already very difficult, and then because they had to be so cheap, they ended up using poor quality components that exacerbated the inherent problems instead of finding ways of improving the user experience.

(I know the new Macbook is priced much higher than a netbook so don't misunderstand me. )

The older one is perfectly fine if you can get one. I have last year's model. Love it! Especially the long life battery + wireless speaker during load shedding. Movies in bed! :D

I've got an Acer Aspire V3 112P that I bought recently. It is probably a successor of the netbook. It has an 11.6 inch screen, a quad core Intel Atom processor, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a touch screen. And a really long battery for such a cheap computer. It actually has an extra large battery.

I'm really liking it, although it wasn't that cheap - R6300.
