I gone through 2 controllers in the last 2 years, which annoys me more than it should.
I don't throw or drop them, what happens is with my Xbox 1 controller the a button got stuck and wont come out.
With my Xbox 360 wireless controller the right analog stick drifts to the left so my camera pans all the time.

It's so annoying cause im an old and casual gamer yet they both broke and i dont throw or drop them i thought these things are supposed to be child proof

is spending the r2000 worth it for a decent one?

R2k? Never. R1k is my limit.
So a normal controller than? Cause a DS4 and a Xbox one controller are both 1k.
Back to OP not sure where you'll find a decent "premium" controller for 2k.

"Normal"? Original, yes. I would almost always get original over third party unless third party did something extra special.
The problem seems that his originals aren't lasting.

Yes if you intend to stay on the current generation console when the next-gen consoles launch. No, if you intend to get the next-gen console at the end of the year

I bought a R200 or so "made in china" controller at a flea market a few years ago and it's still like brand new and it one piece. Works just as good as a brand name controller. Only thing is that its vibration shakes your whole body and all the furniture it's so strong (and loud) but who plays games with vibration on anyway

I like the Xbox controllers and those Razer ones. SCUF has been recently acquired by Corsair, so... expect them to come here at a very high premium.

Price-wise, I will get an Xbox controller on special which seems to be a regular occurrence.

On PC at home, I have 2 x Atlas PC SPARKFOX controllers (which is okay'ish) and my GameSir-G4s which is quite awesome but on the 'too' heavy side, all these are wireless.

I don't like cheap controllers, most don't grip right and have inaccurate buttons and actuators, not to mention schitty button presses. Use a standard Xbox controller and switch to the cheap controller, day and night.

When you play games like Tekken, Dragonball Z, MK11 or any game which relies on accuracy and combos then you will quickly notice how bad controllers can be.

I would say when it comes to gaming peripherals, controllers are premium criteria when you want to play competitively or beat your mate on the couch.

Those Nintendo like 8BitDo controllers is pretty nice at their price point but I like the asymmetrical designs better than than the others.

Google stuck button and fix it? Exactly what I did with my xb1 controller using ear cleaner sticks + cleaning solution...

I don't have any such issues with mine and I do play games like Street Fighter with it pretty regularly. Buttons are 100% accurate and I don't have any grip issues. The vibrator is the only thing that's wonky. Then again I'm a pc gamer and only use my controller for certain games so I probably shouldn't comment in this thread:p

Stuck button and a drifty analogue?

Just needs a wee bit of maintenance mate, open, clean tighten loose things etc etc.

I'm still using a old cheapy Thrustmaster that's more than a decade old, had to make many a plan over the years to keep it working.

I still hear how people rek it with their genius mice and comfort Microsoft keyboards in CSGO... yeah right. I have played with all sorts of peripherals, most are bad some are better and only a fraction of the some are really good. Nothing is perfect.

People were complaining not too long ago about the poor Steam Controller, then when Valve pushed it out for $5 and it was the best thing since sliced bread. Just because you have one doesn't make it good.

Thrustmaster is a good old trusted brand. My age-old Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is still as good as if I purchased it yesterday, but my older Logitech Wingman Force 3D Force is better but less compatible.

When it comes to a Xbox replacement, Microsoft's own peripherals are pretty much unmatched, unless you need that something more which you may or may not get from the Razer or SCUF (which is insanely expensive for what it is), but maybe Corsair will soon introduce a more affordable series of the SCUF.

I would say the same for Playstation, but I see people are now buying the 8BitDo controllers which are affordable. IT does look good, and people are happy with its build quality.

Google's Stadia controller is also currently under the spotlight...

At the end of the day, it is all about personal preference in any case.

I have owned my Ps3 for 8 years now, original controllers still work perfectly. I do open them up and clean them every 6 months though.

Like most things in the world, if you take care of them, they can last forever.
