Are Telkom giving modems without 2 year contract?

When I applied for self install, I didn't get anything, no kit, I had to ask for the filters and got the rest of the things somewhere else, the teller didn't even know what a filter was...
 
"wait a couple of days" - that has to be the BIGGEST Telkom joke ever!!!
 
Just had a call from Telkom saying that my area does not support self installation but I still get the free wi-fi modem etc.

Is this a trick from telkom or how would I really know if my area really does not support self installation? Any suggestions on how to find out....

just called them again, they say there is no contract for it. I still get it free and I don't have to pick it up. The service technician will bring it and everything lol.... to good 2 be true.. :p
 
Ok, lets say you DON'T have a Telkom Land Line, and you applied for ADSL, so they first need to install the land line right, which has its own installation costs... I told them that i have my OWN Modem & ISP, so in that case the ADSL Part of the installation is self-install, right??

So to round up, telkom should only Bill me for the Installtion of the Telkom Land Line, and should not bill me that R435 for the ADSL Installtion? And with that, i also qualify for the FREE MODEM?

They first install the landline which takes some time and they charge you for that installation... then for the ADSL line, if your area supports self-installation, you won't get charged for the installation cost. If your area does not support it, you would have to pay the ADSL installation cost as well as your landline installation cost. But either way whether your area supports selfinstallation or not, you would still get the free modem..
 
I wonder if they realise that since users won't be paying for the hardware, users and kept to no contract, if the neotel offerings are better/cheaper people will move.

haha, just had visions of Telkom in court complaining of their routers being used with neotel lines ;)[ok far off but that would be funny, like multichoice]
