I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to ADSL. Is it possible to get a data only line now or do you still have to get a telkom line and pay an additional fee for voice even if you not gonna use it?

You need a Voice line and also the ADSL line. Two costs. No way you can get the ADSL line separate yet .... :(
Then you still need an ADSL account of course and a modem.

Or you could just go CellC 3G and pay the 12mths data upfront.

Other options are Neotel prepaid where you don't pay a monthly fee (but I don't hate Julius enough to recommend Neotel to even him).

Then there is iBurst but yeah, ditto on the Neotel comment.

And then you might have a WISP in your area and that would be dependent on coverage and your WISP

Anyone know the exact costs of the voice?

This is for my brother, can't get 50+ Gig on 3G...

Home Voice Line: ~R131
Telkom ADSL 384k: R152
Telkom ADSL 512k: R326
Telkom ADSL 4mbps-10mbps: R413

Also if he goes for a Closer Plan, then he saves on installation costs. I did this, on Closer 2 (we actually use our phone for voice).

Also if he is just a light user (1-4Gb per month), then taking a bundled Telkom ADSL offering is even cheaper. Im paying roughly R400 a month for my line, 384 ADSL circuit, 5Gb CAP and closer plan.

My 384 Circuit and 5Gb Cap comes to R259 per month
