Are these guys competitive?

Fudzy.....

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Wireless/139.html - Again iBurst tries to bull**** us. They've been promising a 2mbps connection for a long time now, as well as BS upgrades to 100mb/s. Did any of that happen? NO!

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Wireless/56.html - Customer growth is beginning to show it's effect on the network. More people = more congestion and slower speeds. The company is biting off much more than it can chew. I already said that they've promised BS upgrades, yet nothing happened.

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Wireless/51.html - It's because of this ******* that we now have our P2P service blocked and we now get thrown off the network if we apparently "abuse bandwidth".

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Wireless/367.html - Abuse? I don't call their BW monitor being screwed abuse. They have a crappy system and now we have to pay the price?

Well, there's just a few key points why I can't understand why you're so happy.

The prices I quoted include the ADSL line rental which the Hellkom comparisons don't. For a 384k SAIX account they're the cheapest I know of, don't use them anyway, just saying. :)

Yeah sorry I looked at Hellkom before visiting the site. Very good prices there, how do they manage that?

Not quite sure, their per GB almost prices seem to be cheaper than SAIX wholesale, for the 384k connection anyway. Not sure why they differentiate on speed either when none of the other ISPs do, presumably they have a different agreement with Telkom to everyone else.

ADSL installation - somwehere between R450 and R500.

Time to install - A new line took less than 10 days for them to install for me.

Cost of modem/router - circa R1000.

When I subscribed with iBurst 2 years ago, it was no contest in terms of value for money. Faster speed and at more affordable rates. Today unless you want mobility, I could really find no redeeming feature of iBurst over Telkom ADSL.

How much does Telkom milk you for ADSL / phone line installations?

If you already have a line "NOTHING" and you are already paying the phone line rental so therefore NO extra rental.:D

If you don't have a phone line then of course they will charge you for the installation which is far more work than iburst "flipping a switch" and then still charging you for it.

Bottom line is IF ADSL is available in your area it is the way to go, if not then I guess you are stuck with the wireless options.

EDIT: just remember that I had a good iburst connection and I still moved to ADSL, and at the monent I have both and I can assure you even a "good" iburst connection is way behind ADSL.;)
