so i finally did it i upgraded my CPU to a FX 6300 with a new MB also something is bugging me.

the temps are making me abit worried.

running idle: 11-15 degrees (very good)
Running WoW or diablo: 20-25 degrees (good)
Running thief: 20-30 degrees (good)

heres where im worried.

running metro LL: 40-48 degrees

thats what worries me how can the difference be that big and its not even running at full load...

What sort of cooling are you using? Temperatures of 11-15 degrees would only be possible if your ambient temperature was say 5 degrees.

im using an aftermarket coolermaster heatsink... and i used http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

im abit new to building pc's this is the 2nd time ive ever put in my own parts, 1st time im putting in CPU + thermal compound.. so just abit worried i screwed up the thermal compound or something

Where in SA is the ambient lower than 10C?

What's your room temperature? It not possible to have your CPU temperature below your room temperature using air cooling. Try a different application like CoreTemp or else there may be a problem with your temperature sensors.

Huge variances in game temps usually mean the one is using vsync while the other is not. This is a software setting depending on game and has a huge effect on temp. vsync off means "run flat out" while vsync on means "hit X frames per second & no more". Naturally flat out creates more heat.

the temps are making me abit worried.
Rightly so. 11 degrees is suitable weather for polar bears and definitely not accurate.

In summary...something is fckin with your readings...noway your CPU is cruising at 11 degrees without phase/nitrogen cooling (which you clearly don't have judging by style)

Post all the settings you're using for Last Light here (for both Video and Game). I also see elevated temps while running LL and like Crysis it taxes the CPU pretty well if I'm playing with lower settings or resolution.

Also, tell us what GPU and OS you're using.

Wow, you're 2 cents short of an idiot.

There are always reasons for their statements.
It doesn't mean they're being dicks, they're just stating facts.

I really fail to see what the actual issue is here. Your CPU will be perfectly happy at running around 50C.
I would recommend getting the latest versions of your monitoring tools. Especially Core Temp, it doesn't even show your individual core tems? These are what you should be looking at, not your package temp.

There are a couple things to keep in mind:
Metro is an extremely demanding game. It could be using more of a single core, driving your temperature up.
Your other games could have their load spread more and are less demanding on the CPU.
Your cores not being covered correctly by heatsink or thermal paste leading to a hot spot. Would be more exaggerated if this core saw high usage. Orientation of Heat spread is different between Intel and AMD of course, one being horizontal across the CPU, the other being vertical. So if your heatpipes run the wrong direction across your CPU you could see a hot spot.

At the end of the day these are just possible scenarios, and if it really does worry you. Maybe try reapplying thermal paste and reseating your heatsink or just going water cooling :p

I think its normal. My i5 2500K gets to around 40C when gaming and the fans are still quiet. Some games may cause the fans to spin up more.

Something that maxes all cores like Handbrake multithreaded may keep all fans noisy and CPU at 60C.
