Are these rams compatible?

It should work, but rather get another 4GB 2-Ranks module.

It seemed to of worked.

But ye, The 4gb stick in alone, makes windows not boot. (not be confused with post) Gets to windows loading and gets stuck there.

with the 2GB in and 4GB in aswell, it works, Had a system failure while playing GTA V, but dont think its ram as i ran memtestx86 for 7 hours with NO errors.

Only thing i find wierd is the 2GB low profile ram is single sided and 4GB is dual sided, not sure if that plays apart in anything?

Update your BIOS or reinstall Windows. If you went with 2 of the same capacity modules then you would have got them operating in dual channel.

If 4GB stick alone is not working, I wouldn't keep it in the computer (even it seems to be working with the other module). You say tested with Memtest: why you didn't run Memtest with 4GB module (only) at first place? If you boot Windows with bad RAM, Windows installation can get corrupt.

Post your motherboard details, it might have restrictions to the memory configuration.

Good point. Didnt think about that, thought that with both in, memtest would of picked it up

btw i didnt install windows with that ram in, just tested it by itself.

Just for clarification, I put in the 4gb ram alone, started playing CSGO, PC froze, powered it off, started it up, windows didnt boot, quite a number of times.. So i put the other ram in and it was fine.

I was confused with your post that Windows coudn't boot with 4GB stick. It was your old one, so unless it was destroyed by static electricity or by not unplugging mains power cord, nothing is wrong with 4GB stick. So I assume your Windows got corrupt earlier (when booting with both sticks).

Both modules have the same voltage. However I expect a problem with a newer higher-density chips on the 2GB stick. I made quick check on Gigabyte Web site for memory compatibilty: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4084#memory support list
and noticed that no single 2GB stick on the list was single-side (one rank). Perhaps Intel specification for the chipset would be more specific, but I have no time at the moment.

I suggest to put 2GB stick alone and boot DOS to Memtest and run at least two passes, you didn't do it so far.
Then repeat with 4GB stick alone (to verify that 4GB stick is still good).

As long as it takes, but at least two passes. :)
And verify that detected memory size is correct. Usually in such cases only half of memory is detected.

Thanks, 2 passes, eish, 2 hours atleast :D thanks for info
