Are we seeing a new ICASA?

Until they do something to show their mettle its all window dressing and spin.

Shouldn't it be Nicci Ferguson Inc?

@ dom - a thumbs up

@ new Icasa - keep it up, and don't disappoint us now...

let old Icasa pass away and be forgotten, eyes on the future now!

yet more talk and no action... waste of breath and our precious air!

as someone who deals with them on a daily basis at a number of levels my take is that the answer is "yes and no"

as stated in the article some of the recent documentation is really surprisingly good and my sense from interactions with Council is that in some respects the corner really has been turned...they have a plan and, subject to delays which are almost inevitable in this field, they are sticking to it

@ some levels however the same crap of calls not being returned and correspondence ignored continues....maybe the new attitude still needs to filter down

also imho some of the councillors are not up to scratch in the particular areas they are covering

my informal interactions with some personnel have left me satisfied that there are some excellent people around who have a solid grasp on the need to usher in competition sooner rather than later

having said that the proof of course will be in the pudding - in my line of work a blanket negative attitude is not particularly useful so i have a tendency towards optimism (however historically misplaced this may be)

Well, I'll hold out hope for a new and brighter ICASA, same as I hold out hope for a better Telecoms landscape in SA. Otherwise what's the point of us being here? :D

Gooo ICASA!

Some of us are eternal optimists... and keep on hoping for a better tomorrow no matter what may happen.

@ dom - that sounds positive... I really do hope that the right attitude filters down and replace the negative attitude...

...right now all the negative vibes can filter towards telkom, they'll need a lot of these... :D :D

While it does look like !CASA is getting better, I would still like to see !CASA's independence from the DoC [in particular disentangled from Ivy's creepy stranglehold] clarified beyond doubt with an amendment to The Constitution, and I still think Paris Mashile needs to be sacked as well as the rest of Ivy's plants weeded out.

And have we all forgotten that !CASA has still not sorted out its pathetic & ambiguous ADSL Regulations? - we are all still paying waaay too much for a degraded ADSL service, so I cannot applaud !CASA until that is sorted out.

Having said that, I do believe that there are still some very good people left at !CASA - not many of them considering the large exodus of staff, but there are some good people, and they do deserve recognition for their efforts.

personally not sure of the sway of chairman paris within the organisation & remember that under the ECA there are far fewer ways for the poison one to interfere (legally speaking)

there is actually some progress in sorting out the dsl regulations - witness this http://www.telkom.co.za/athome/products/dsl/home_terms.html

DSL performance indicators
ADSL regulations as per Government Gazette no:29141

On 17 August 2006 the Authority's regulations on the provisioning of ADSL services was published in Government Gazette 29141 (Notice 1112 of 2006).

The regulations require some changes in the manner in which services are currently being provided.

One of the areas where Telkom needs to comply is that the contention ratio for its ADSL service should be published. The contention ratio for ADSL is 20:1. Contention ratios are an international norm and all ISP's make use of it. The contention ratio does not remain constant as it fluctuates as the service grows and more customers and infrastructure are added.

Another regulation that we are in compliance with is that Telkom shall publish updated information on ADSL-enabled exchanges in the white pages of the telephone directory or electronic directory. Telkom is in full compliance with this requirement as customers can access Telkom's exchange checker on the Telkom website found by clicking on the Exchange Checker click through above.

The regulation further requires the presentation of key performance indicators comprising of at least Packet Losses, Average Latency and Jitter for the ADSL service as a commitment to good business practice which is illustrated by the graphs below: click here.

not good enough but there is at least some movement (which, imho, both myadsl and icasa have been involved in getting)

I think it does give a sense that there is actually a light at the end of the tunnel, albeit a long and windy tunnel, at least there is a glimmer of hope.

Keep up the good work ICASA, you're on the right track.

P.S. Thanks to dominic as well

Come now ICASA !!! :p I know plenty of cheerleaders, I would get a parade started if they bloody well make things right :)

I'll Believe It When I see It ^^.

I got my DSL today so ICASA better get their **** together and give us freakin big caps first. These movie trailers are pretty big ya know..
