Are Xbox PC controllers just plug in and play? (wired)

I want to purchase two of them so me and my friend can play some co-op games, but I don't want it to be overly complicated. Can you just plug in two controllers and all games will recognize them?

I ask because at the moment I have a Logitek that doesn't work with half of Windows games, forcing me to use Xpadder and I hate it.

If I'm gonna spend so much money on two Xbox controllers I want a plug in and play experience.
 
Awesome! Thank you guys! IIRC the cheapest ones are from Rebeltech? (which is offline atm eww) but they had them listed as R460.


Still gonna cost me R920 -_-' but oh well. Unless someone knows of a controller that does the same, but for cheaper, then I can get myself the Xbox controller and give my friend the lesser one :P
 
Even the wireless controller works plug and play with Windows 7 upward.

Because it's not the default controller PC games?

You need to install extra drivers and stuff and still don't get the proper in game integration.

I'm a playstation guy, but for gaming on windows the wired 360 controller is the best.

It takes 5 min to setup once, and it works for all compatible games.

For people with Windows XP just download or install the driver. As mentioned from above from Windows Vista and above the drivers comes preloaded with windows. The Xbox 360 controller is best for PC gaming as far as I can see. A lot of games actually shows you a Xbox controller when you check the controller page. But maybe it's only my preference.

It's the officially supported controller. That's why when you use a controller it shows the xbox a,b,x,y buttons.
 
Yeah that is basically what I meant, most of the in game screens or on screen displays actually reflect the Xbox buttons. I had my Wired Xbox360 controller for use with my PC more than 4 years now and still working perfectly.

I have the wireless Xbox controller and it is brilliant. Should have bought one years ago. Great for platformers and fighting games. Got it for a good price at Kalahari.
 
Just as a side note, If you have existing console game controllers (ps3/ps4/xbox360 wireless) then you should have a google at how easy it is to get those running on the pc.

Don't know what setup you have ... but if it an save you ~900 then it's worth a try :)

Update: forgot about this https://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list It's a wrapper for existing controllers to 'act like 360 controllers'. Try this first with your existing logitech stuff.

Check out xbstart.info if you want to use your controller on the Win 8 start menu ;)
 
You you want. I got a xbox360 wired controller for my pc. Hardly used for cheap
