how long from delivery to wife is pretty?

4 weeks? 6 weeks?

Would you say the estimated startup costs in the article (R2000) are accurate?
R 1,560.00
Just add bottles.

I've been brewing since around maybe 2014 or 2013. First extracts, then partial mash, now all-grain.
Have made everything from lagers to stouts, ciders, pineapple and ginger beer and mead.

LOL, bucket fermentation is usually two weeks, plus another two weeks priming in the bottle.

So 4 weeks, although the beer generally improves the longer you prime it in the bottle.

You can get away with shorter fermentation and shorter priming.... maybe 10 days fermentation and a week bottle priming.

Typically 2-3 weeks I prefer 4 weeks but have drank beer after just a week from start with the right yeast and equipment.

And as I was finishing post #10 ranting about it I received a WhatsApp... “Hi buddy, how are you? I remember you make beer...”. First message from this person since the last alcohol ban.

I just sent a similar message to someone I know...

Anyhow I'm going to be buying some wort and yeast in the near future just to see how it turns out.

Go for it, its a really easy way to make great beer with very little equipment. Its a bit expensive during non prohibition but right now it's a bargain. Just ferment, bottle, condition and enjoy.

You will end up with very nice beer and the start of a great new hobby

Kveik can get you there in ~2.5 weeks :p

My nitrogen just ran out so I have to get that refilled. Fact is, going to keg you can cut it down to a week. I have a 10L lager (leftover grains that I just moered together) and a 20L bitter just waiting to go to keg. The lager will get there first since I still have CO2.

@Toxxyc is also selling wort, might also be something to look at.

True, but for the purposes of start-up we can assume forum members don't have kegging equipment and will have to bottle, and bottle carbonation will take a bit longer (though still faster than traditional yeast)

I can brew pretty much anything I want, anytime I want.

I think I am doing pretty darn well, think im on batch 10 all great, but every batch better than the last. At the moment im even doing experimental batches. Brewing since may 2020 I think

This was a 6% smokey porter

Wow - surly the shipping costs on 20l must be fairly substantial?
Well, people want booze. Main centres aren't that bad - around R180 per kit shipped countrywide. The outlying areas carry a heftier fee, unfortunately. The kits to Swaziland I didn't book, so I don't know what the guy paid for shipping.

Looks pretty good and well-made at that too.

I'm planning on buying 20l of fresh wort and yeast from a local small brewery the first time around but who knows what the future holds. Your kits look amazing.

Support your local breweries, please. Buy wort if you can. They REALLY need it. The way things are going now, we're going to lose up to 80% of our craft breweries due to this virus.

I haven't for a couple of years now but I used to do a lot, always had a brew on the go. Used the Coopers kits so fairly easy and nice drinkable results. All the equipment is standing ready, should think about starting up again. If the kits are not like hens teeth.
