Have EU citizenship, children just obtained theirs, so that is the backup plan.

No plan of leaving anytime soon, but as soon as property ownership is a real threat and we are unable to buy ourselves out of the problems (i.e. Solar for Load-shedding, Borehole for Water-cuts etc.), then we will begin making solid plans.

Biggest challenge is family, especially the folks, they will need more and more help as they age, and relocating at their age becomes a mission :(

I will be here for the next elections but after that?

Preparing an escape route.

This is a big thing for me. They both have the means to leave, but they have made it clear they will die in SA, regardless of what goes on here.

well, all you lot moving from the failed provinces to the western cape may need to get used to 'drought regulations' / 'water rationing' not much was done around extending the water supply.
we're out of here in a few days from now, i'll leave water in my tanks for the next bloke fwiw

My problem with emigrating is that you're effectively hitting the reset button on your life. Sure South Africa is circling the drain and is well on it's way to become 'another african country' but it's actually kinda nice here if you don't read news24.

Old age care is brutally expensive in 1st world countries. Plus, your kids will most likely be living in your home till they 30 or can financially afford to live with other people in a 30sqm apartment.
Observations that should be taken into account. As a lot of people think about themselves only, and how they will live life on the other side.

The only option I can take under consideration at this time is North America (Canada). I am busy evaluating this as I type. Since Covid, business here hasn't been too great, not to mention other retractions...

I am only surprised by how many IT businesses are turning to solar and other renewables.
