I was financially stable up until a month ago.... Then I got a new car and bought a house. And the little one is starting "school" in about 4 months. So yes pretty screwed at the moment.

Each month here the savings have been getting less and less. Right now it looks like things are going to start going in reverse. Trying to make some extra money anyway I can right now.

It is harder right now as well, considering my Wife isn't earning a salary. Can only hope for one day.

Nope, not good.

Clients think us consultants are zillionaires and do not need our invoices paid within 30 days, so some months, if I do not beg and plead and threaten them to pay, I have liquidity problems.

Doing all I can to make provision for retirement planning. It is still very, very far off, but it troubles me! ... so try to put all the money I can, in there.

Things are pretty dire here! Bought my girlfriend's engagement ring which was a pretty penny and also bought a car a couple of months ago to replace my stolen one which put me a few Rand out of pocket. It seems major expenses are out of the way now for a while at least, and starting this month, I can start saving again.

Horrendously bad for me right now. But I'm fully expecting to pull off something massive under the Zuma administration - and totally get away with it! :p

If I maintain a limited lifestyle without any major setbacks, I can cruise carefully to the end, but I suspect the last few years will be more like hovering on the brink of financial distress.

My aim is to maintain a constantly low expenditure rate and
to optimise my general resource and energy usage:

- optimal eating habits (no overeating or wasting of food)
- optimise garden irrigation (no wasting of water)
- invest in solar panels
- redesign home lighting for maximum efficiency
- maintain my vehicle well
- drive to conserve (slower speed)
- limit services: NO TV and ADSL ON
- stop buying printed newspapers - read online only

Maybe I can make it, if I stick to the plan.

I don't need much more than about 14 - 20 books, some clothing and a few games per year. :)

Fortunately I don't have many social expenditures, living pretty much a solo activity lifestyle.

I just need my missus to finish her studies then things will go a LOT better. That being said, my expenses right now are minimal, save for the few large purchases I made recently.
