And this is precisely why I was critical of the whole thing. Not because I'm bitter and cynical and whatever else, but because it ultimately achieved nothing.

Jaja, 'unity' and 'hear each other's stories' and all that, but nah. I bet most people barely remember the march or the people they met there. Meanwhile many of my friends are complaining that the new interest rate is going to make their lives very difficult. Also, petrol is skyrocketing in May.

Lol it was obvious that Zuma won't step down after the first march. I don't think anyone was stupid enough to claim just that one day would put enough presure on him. You are missing the point completely.

Point was to show parliament/ANC that people will vote them out if they do not change/remove him.

I don't know which is worse: Zuma and his arrogance, or you and yours, Zoopy. I remember every second of that march (and hell - look it's still in my signature here and I don't intend taking that down any time soon), and taking part in one of the tipping points (and there are usually many required when there is this much entrenched power and inertia) is something I'll treasure for the rest of my life. Why mock that, Zoopy? What else in South Africa is promoting unity in a real sense? Who else is honestly sharing their stories? Who else is taking time out of their day en masse across that many social, racial and political affiliations to be able to say "No more"? Just because in English you can string a couple of dismissive words together, it doesn't take anything away from those events and what they mean for South Africa as a whole or individual South Africans.

And will that happen? The people who keep voting him in weren't part of the March, were they?

Blah blah blah. I'm sure you had a big old jol. Now what's your plan from there? Hope that come the next election Zuma gets less votes? Great plan in light of a president who is on the fast-track to becoming yet another African dictator.

Most of our voter base doesn't vote. If they voted, the election results would look very different.

18/25 million voted. ANC won with 62% of 18 million, so 11.16 million. That's the 2014 National Results.
ANC would be out of power if the other 7 million decided to vote.

It fundamentally changed my view of a variety of issues, and I will be doing more going forward, including attending future protests, to try and make a difference.

Did you attend? I don't mean that in a bitchy way, just in the context of it being a real eye-opener to me.

In Afrikaans: "Aanhouer wen!". i.e. if you don't try, and try again, don't expect to win at whatever you're doing.
If the people of this country don't do something like this, when why should anything change. Perhaps it doesn't change today, or tomorrow. But it will change. At least some of us did something to make it better place so pleps like you could enjoy the free ride.

Help me understand your mind. From your point of view, are you a free-thinking intellectual? It must be so quaint to spout what you do and be unable to recognise the irony. I've ALREADY done something. What have you done, apart from criticise others online?

People still continue to do things. Facebook groups are very active. Preconceptions by white South Africans that black people will always vote ANC have begun to change. There's more optimism there than there is here.

If you remember, EVERYBODY who actually participated in the marches (before the marches even happened) said they knew it wouldn't result in immediate change, but it was the best start we've had collectively since 1994. That is something, not nothing, so please for the love of small canned peas, take your dismissive attitude and shove it.
