Malware Threat

Thank goodness for linux. TGFL

None of this bloody nonsense

Writing malware against Linux is much harder than for Windows. So while maybe there will be a few exploits, the open nature of the OS will kill those off quicker than on Windows and as said, it is more difficult to code for Linux or OSX as these OS'es are different to Windows in terms of security and stability.

This is one of the main reasons why I'm considering a switch to Linux!

You guys better be right when you say Linux doesn't need an anti virus!! :p

I think having a browser is only one stage of helping protect yourself from malware, how about we list programs (freeware where available) that can greatly reduce infections as apposed to completely stopping it from infecting ones system.

Personally i recommend
Malwarebytes
It has time and time again worked for my customers and me.Now to be fully protected you have to purchase it however you can scan and remove if you are infected.

Spybot Search & Destroy
Works well against protecting your browser url from becoming hijacked.

More suggestions from fellow forumites to follow ;)

Well after 3yrs of running Linux I eventually discovered a Virus on my hard drive - needles to say it occupies and entire partion :erm: but I will resolve this by just deleting the partition.

Did a google on the web on this infection and got references to "Windows XP" :p :p :p

Industry expert warns against new methods of online infection

I think I am! :D

Of course, any OS is only as virus-proof as the user operating it.

"Enter your password to perform administrative tasks - The application "annakournakovanaked" lets you modify essential parts of your system"

If you do indeed enter your admin password here, you indeed are a dumbass, and deserve to get infected.

:D:D

Malware? What's that?

Protected at home with smoothwall+url filter :D
