Doubt it.
The costs go in to the organisation and logistics on the day and they don't run the tour at a profit. There is no money to do all this again next week. With road closures, security and manpower takes a year to organize a race like this.

Daughter was aiming for a 3:30. But decided to turn it into a fun ride when route was shortened. Then it was cancelled juts before she was due to start.
The videos showing wind conditions at the start are extremely misleading. The wind blows at extremely high speeds through the buildings on the foreshore, much higher than reported on any of the websites. In 2009, it was reported but unconfirmed, that the wind was howling through the buildings just after the start at 300 km/hr!

I just say run the race in late September or early October. It's the perfect mix of warming weather and no wind...

Can't they plan for a Saturday? With the Sunday as an alternate?

Ja this is a recurring argument with the organisers. The other one is that that they do not get to grips with an alternative route plan for the race. Many persons have suggested alternatives to them mostly which have gone ignored.

Damn - thats hetic. Good job I didnt plan do to it this year. Would have been pissed if I came all that way and it was cancelled.

I was down there - was meant to start at 07h35 and glad it was cancelled.
It started this morning when thugs in Masi blocked the road and started burning tyres and throwing bricks. Got a SMS which said route shortened to 79KM which kind of killed it for me. Not worth risking serious injury for a shortened Argus.
Friends that started said wind was manageable though besides for the city "wind tunnels" which are deadly.

yup its the tunnel effect created by those bridges and the way the buildings structures have been designed in that specific area
nevertheless, the start would have been impossible

I've done a few tours, so it's not the end of the world for me.
Not great for the Vaalies and foreigners though.
I went back to bed - my bike is still in the car
Wind was a factor, but that's not the real reason it was cancelled.
The wind has blown like that before.
Masi (where they were burning tyres and throwing stones) is only about a kilometer away from where the Glencairn Express intersects Kommetjie Rd.
Even with the shortened route, everyone has to pass through that intersection.
There were also some threats made....

Ja agreed, open window like, erm, I suppose like golf. Today would be almost prefect with the rain. Yeah, rain in Cpt. but an open window of like 3 days at least. Can you imagine the costs spent by non Cpt'ers to get here and have it cancelled? Astronomical....
