"Armed owner busted"

Shoot the guy first and then fire warning shots everywhere...........say you fired 5 warning shots but the guy kept on coming.

A friend of my fathers did this and got away with it, make sure the gun is legit though.

Are there not more subtle non lethal weapons on the market like pepper guns and tazers, where would one buy something like that.

The cops have to take the gun for evidence and they legally have to instigate and prove if an innocent has or has not been shot.
They'll investigate, find it was self defense and return his firearms in due time.

It will more likely be sold to a fellow criminal, and claim it was "lost".

Hmm who knows. I've got an acquaintance who used his gun for self defense and got it back after the investigation. AFAIK they even cleaned it for him.
 
Shooting someone who attacked with a steel pipe? Sounds like self-defense to me.

The crook must have been screwed up in the head to charge at someone holding a gun. Any sane person would surrender or maybe run.
It's possible that the home owner is not being completely honest, and did not give the crook a chance to surrender. Maybe even placing the steel pipe.

Not that I don't believe it at all, criminals can be incredibly stupid.

Or... he was high as **** on tik, meth or some other concoction.

Why would you want to be subtle? Put him down and make sure he stays there.

The home owner will more than likely not even see the inside of a court, an inquest will be held to determine whether the shooting was justified as it was in this case and he will be released with no criminal record

As for the criminal, have the press seen the docket which lists all the charges?

With regard to non lethal household I would suggest the following
- Direct stream pepper spray – you don’t have to be close to spray the perp. SWAT is a good make as is Liquid Bullet
- Taser to use once you have pepper sprayed the perp, make sure he stays down. The Taser that shoots is prohibitively expensive as are the reloads, plus it is a one shot weapon.
- Paintball gun, don’t bother with pepper balls, most paintball shops sell solid nylon balls these work, they can chip vibracrete and you can unload a full 200 bal hopper on the perp very fast, you also get good distance and the closer he get the more painful it is.

I would also advise that you keep a large rusty knife that you can tell the police he was carrying

If you do shoot an assailant keep shooting till he stays down no matter what DreamKing says, even a wounded perp can be dangerous and if armed could still shoot you

Sure but if you shot the guy and say you did it because he yelled he's going to kill your pig dog kids with a lead pipe it would be ruled in your favour. Get what I'm saying?
YOU have to prove that you believed an attack was imminent. Leaving it up to the state to prove **** on their own is, well, dangerous.

I loaded my hopper with those PVC / nylon balls. from 15m away they put a decent dent into 3mm steel sheeting. Those things will break you.

Also, an update on the guy I caught stealing our car. It happened in August 2008. He still hasn't stood trial in court, despite us being subpoenad to stand witness 3 times now.

Just as effective as rubber bullets

The court thing sounds about right, you get called to come in sit around till the case comes up and then it gets postponed for some reason. Luckily I used to work near the courts so I would down to the prosecutors office in the morning and gie him a copy of my subpoena with a business card and tell him to call me on my cell if he needed me

You forget about forensics :D. If the entrance wound is on the back of the criminal you'll get convicted because he didn't pose a thread at the moment you shot him.
My advice - shoot from the front and shoot to kill. then it's only your word against the forensic evidence(if shot from front and criminal has weapon no problem).

I wonder how long ‘due time’ is? About 5 years before ‘records’ are lost? In the meantime him (and his family) must remain defenceless while the information is sold to home invasion criminals about an unarmed home by ‘the long arm of the law’.

Nope. You are allowed to shoot him if he attacks your children. From the back side or below. Doesn't matter.
