A 35-year-old home owner was arrested for attempted murder in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the resident was arrested at 10am after he shot a 30-year-old man inside his house who had attacked him with a steel pipe.

Mbele said four men broke into the owner's property and upon arrival two men were outside the house and two inside.

"Two managed to run away... it is alleged one of them [inside the house] tried to attack him with a steel pipe."

The owner shot the man once in the lower body and his friends ran away. Police doing their crime prevention in the area headed towards the house after hearing the gun shot.

The wounded man was taken to hospital under police guard. He was arrested for house breaking, theft and malicious damage to property.

"The owner of the house was arrested for attempted murder and his firearm was seized."

Mbele said the investigation was still ongoing and both men would appear in Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon.

read the responses on the page. i love the 2nd one by carrot.................."i tried to dialogue with him............" LOLOLOLOLOL

Ridiculous. So if you shoot a perp, better to torture the fcker, than dispose of the body. So what's the best way to dispose of a body? Fire seems pretty good if you have access. Acid? Water can destroy forensic evidence. Wouldn't want to chance leaving any forensic evidence because they only time the police will investigate and use it is when a homeowner kills a criminal.

PS. We should have a thread about what's the best way to dispose of a body. And sticky it :D

Best way to dispose of a body is to feed it to pigs. They'll eat everything except the teeth.

Use your imagination, there are plenty of ways you can dispose of a body. It would be easy to go into detail, but this is a topic best kept off a public forum.

Fudzy, 20 years ago Fordsburg was "downtown" industrial/residential low class but things change.

Um, minimum force? Also the charge is a normal procedure. He is lucky they didn't lock him up.

The charge is standard, it's similar if you hit someone with your car on the freeway, you are charged with a crime but the matter still has to go to court.

The article is a bit inflamatory with it's wording: "seized" etc. The owner would have been charged but I don't think he will have an issue as, from the text, it appears he used minimal deadly force to stop his assailant: single shot to the lower body. The gun would be taken as evidence and undergo balistics etc.

Guaranteed he'll be let off on self defence in court.

One more criminal off the streets - they should give the home owner a medal!

Agreed. SOP. Author is stirring the pot unnecessarily.

/I'm sure R/SGT will confirm this.

Of course, you cant just shoot someone without having to justify it legally

Our cops arent fit to make decisions as to who was innocent and whether it was self defence, most of em cant even spell defence

Totaly SOP.....

Same thing has happened in Durban yesterday where a hijacker was shot 7 times while trying to hijack some guys car....

Big up to the owner of the vehicle who had the presence of mind to do what he did.

Just procedure guys. The home owner be fine.
The cops have to take the gun for evidence and they legally have to instigate and prove if an innocent has or has not been shot.
They'll investigate, find it was self defense and return his firearms in due time.

Just wondering, what happens if you shoot an oke because he is about to enter a childs/babies room? Surely because they are minors you could get away with it?

the arrest was just a mere formality, they probably need to make sure that the firearm is legal and that sort of stuff... no need to get all worked up... really....

You'd need to prove that you considered an attack on the child as imminent.

Doesn't make sense. The guy with the gun gets charged with attempted murder, but the guy with the steel pipe doesn't get charged with attempted assault, or attempted murder or anything that the victim says happened. The cops aren't allowed to make that decision.
