So yesterday I get back from work check the mail (snail), usual stuff, community newspaper letter for my wife and a rather official looking one for me... (sorry Vas)

Anyway open it up and it's a attorneys letter from Telkom, the missed final payment blah blah services rendered *blink, reread* SERVICES RENDERED. the absolute tossers have the audacity to charge me for services rendered when I waited for 9 months to get a line and they never installed ANYTHING and the wanted to bill me for R2.5k. No I do not accept that how in all that is holy can they even think they have ANY right to charge me for something that they did not even do and then still send it off to a law firm to try and get me to pay it.

Does anyone know if there is any recourse for me or do I have to deal with their attorney now.

IMHO, it is probably easier to deal with the attorney than with telkom accounts.

The attorney may even answer his/her phone....

Anyways, all things being equal, I doubt an attorney would proceed in the matter if you are in the right - attorneys may be sharks ( :D ), but they are not stupid.

Oh blah. Throw it in the bin - light it up, burn it, whipe your a$$ with it...

They don't have any more clue than Telkom, they're merely puppets doing what Telkom tells them to do. I get those often, I even got summoned to appear in courte once. I can't be bothered.

Latest one, they sent me one of those letters instead of a invoice - for... Wait for it...

R25.43 outstanding, and it was less than 2 weeks over due as well.

These things are all automated, and the automation buggers up. I wouldn't be bothered about it at all if I was you.

Call the attorneys, get the name of the bugger taking professional responsibilty for the demand and ask to speak to him. Then kindly inform him that his client has not delivered the services they claim, and unless you have a written corrective, free of charge within a week, you will report him for unprofessional conduct - and ask him how to do it as well.

After the phone call to the Attorney, just back it up with a Fax to his office and his attention, stating, "with reference to our telephonic conversation earlier today I would just like to put on record...bla bla..etc.

Nobody can later come out and say they never heard from you and have now been forced to approach the courts for a judgement.
Remember people go on leave, find other places of employment and have selective memories when it suits them.
Cover your @ss with paper.
But do not get emotional, just state the facts, the date and time of the call and the Telkom Account details etc.
You will be pleasantly surprised how quickly the attorney will settle the matter.
No good dwelling on a case if his firm cannot make any money out of it.

Anyway, I decided to respond

Hello

In response to the letter sent to me by yourselves dated 14 June 2006.

The services the telkom claim to have rendered to me were never actually delivered. I applied for An ADSL account midway through the year and waited months people kept on coming round to my house (for which I had to take time off work) only to leave again without connecting me to telkom. this went on for months. Eventually someone came round and said that there were not enough nodes (or something to that effect) and that the cabling department would have to come any sort it out. next thing I know I'm getting bills, so I cancelled my order. telkom have sent technicians round to my house 3 times (for which I had to take MORE time off work) to verify my story, eventually I went into the telkom office in Walmer Park and had it "Sorted out".
Next thing I know I get this letter, to say that I am upset it understating it alot.

I have never in all my years had such an unprofessional service from any company in my private or professional career

Regards
Anthony Wooldridge
