Arson closes 19 schools

where else does this happen? its certainly not genetic, more like apartheid tactics, these people see it worked in per '94 so they use it now
frankly I can't think how anybody can fix that except maybe education....

What the burning of infrastructure in protest?

Hhmm, lets see, the Greeks seemed to like it. Oh, and where ever the is a meeting of the G8/G20 or [insert gathering of rich countries here]...

umm.. they go on a rampage and destroy shops, cars etc. around them, in Africa the idea is to go and destroy something the government has build for you...

I got some pics of the recent protest at Medupi power station. All the labourers get free hot food packages everyday, but recently the food delivered were cold. The labourers went ape and trashed all the food packages.

Will upload pics later of food packages lying all over the Medupi power station.

Oh by the way the labourers also get free food, accommodation and transport.

I have a failure to relate.

I used to think that I got it. You are seriously annoyed with a lack of service delivery so you pop on over to the local councillor's house with a few throusand of your close friends and burn the place down. The train is late so you teach it a lesson by setting it alight. Of course the action taken is extreme and isn't how I believe people ought to behave. But I understand it in the simple cause and effect way.

This seems to be a different animal - it is no longer the simple 'no service delivery' = 'no house for the councillor' sort of action. By simple analogy, it's like you not getting paid and instead of walking off with the company's assets you rob the local church.

You must be kidding right? So they must burn non goverment buildings?

My point in this case is that the cause of the protest is a gravel road that the community wants tarred. It is in all probability a very valid complaint and has most probably been raised via the community structures to the relevant authorities.

If they were motivated enough to BURN A SCHOOL, then why not rather dig up the road and make it unpassable and thereby forcing the relevant authorities to do something about the ROAD?

Now they have no ROAD, 1 less SCHOOL and thousands of kids sitting at home instead of in classrooms.

Furthermore, the school will take many months to fix, so where will the affected pupils go?

Fsck 'em.

They've made it abundantly clear to whites that a child is held accountable for his parents' sins...so if the parents burn down the school, let the children suffer. (I'm kidding, I feel for the poor kids)

Mila, we've had it happen SO many times on our projects where they burn down the school as soon as it's completed simply because it's not completed on time (which is due to non-payment of contractors by the DPW). What we've had to resort to was to hand over each classroom to the Dept. the day it was completed and have them sign off on it. The very next day it would be burnt down, but no longer our problem since it was the Dept's property (which they signed for the day before).

The irony is, by burning down schools they are making the white man richer whose contracting firm is hired to repair it. His black workers get paid the same rate per month whether they build 1 or 10 schools. :)

Its human nature I guess. Its same as people on these forums who wish/hope the worst for SA just to make a point.

if from tomorrow we have,

crime rate down
better public hospital system
better education system
more trained educated police officers on the street
corrupted government officials all go to jail
tax cut
road with no pothole, traffic lights not always out of order
effective public transport system
ban labour union
no protest
no one burning schools, public buildings, tyres
etc....

I promise I shut up!

and if anc can bring us all the above, I promise I will vote anc forever! (for past 15 years, anc proved that they can't!)

And the info I have was that they were not satisfied with the food parcels.
At the same time it was when eiskom was striking for more money and they found out the amount of profit eiskom declared for the last year.

Of what relevance is this to the discussion? A bunch of workers not happy with their food that forms part of their basic working conditions according to you, refuse to eat the food and throw it away?

Yes, that deplorable destruction of property there...

no matter which party can bring us the better life, I will vote for them!

who cares who is ruling party, I only concern do I have a better life after I vote them in power.
