Art - own any?

We're making our own. Slowly taking down old unknowns and putting our own creations on the walls.

Define art? I have a hand woven tapestry of 'The accolade' from Brugge.
Not hell of an expensive piece but I love it.

I have an art skateboard by Khaya Witbooi

I commissioned it just before the Iziko National Museum bought two of his works for their own collection, so I guess it could be worth more than what I bought it for.

I also own an Atang Tshikare art board, but I still have to go collect it, been at the skateboard shop for two years now.

I doubt it was handwoven if it wasn't expensive. Then again, ideas of what 'expensive' means vary. Truly hand woven tapestries of quality are not cheap though

I'm just curious - my dad asked me if I'd be interested in buying two paintings from a guy going into a home - he wanted R10k for both, did a bit of research, and the artist sells from R40k - R80k for similiar pieces

We have 2 Marie Theron paintings with scenery of West coast fishing villages. Dono if they worth anything, I doubt it.

if the art doesn't grab your attention then maybe paying 10k for it will

art and value is very subjective, the Mona Lisa is only famous (and as a consequence valuable) because it was stolen

not to mention that the art trading scene is beyond corrupt, mostly used by rich people to move and store wealth

Who is the artist?

Have a few items...

Some Rorkes Drift Rugs, one or two other relatively respectable artist paintings as well... some in storage though since they don't fit with the house decor.

Have a few paintings that I inherited from my dad. Some of them are worth a fair amount. The most expensive one I have is a Boonzaier that's worth well over R100k.

Possibly not hand woven then. I think at the time I payed 500 euro.

My wife and I collect art not on price or artist but what we like. If his art is good may as well buy it especially if his other stuff is around that. That's just my opinion

A few pieces here and there, but the one I adore most is a Sasha Hartslief oil on canvas I bought around ten years ago...

It boils down to two things? You can buy it as an investment or because you like it. Or both. Let that guide you.

Yeh - the two mentioned - I would buy both as an investment. Not my cup of tea.

I have a few pieces I bought because I like, ranging from R5,000 to R30,000....

I guess the most important question in this regard is will what you buy sell in the future. If not.def not worth it
