Article: 200,000 "ghost" pupils in KZN

One KwaZulu-Natal teaching district has 200,000 "ghost" pupils, the Daily News reported on Friday.

According to the report, education MEC Peggy Nkonyeni revealed on Thursday that schools were inflating pupil numbers in a bid to obtain extra resources from the department.

Do they Ghost pass with distinctions as well?

Its a common game.

I know of a school that is building two 'storerooms' that will also be used as classrooms.
But they have reported the rooms as storerooms, else the Department of Education would increase their quotas, specifically of black pupils as they would then have extra room. The reason they are building the two new 'storerooms'? Their existing classes are packed. Ghost pupils, that I can understand. Ghost teachers... A different story.

Don't some of the schools have ghost teachers as well?

No, those are the ones that doesn't pitch for the exam and has to do the year over next year. They probably do pitch for the exam, but being ghost it's hard to be seen.

It would also be interesting to know how many ghost teachers were on the payroll.

And this is why we have systems in place to check things like this and flag changes over time. Surprisingly, the EC is the best equipped technologically speaking and we are almost at the place where we can identify every anomaly on a month-to-month basis. Of course, whether anyone chooses to do anything with the knowledge is a different thing.

Ghost voters too. :)

AT least in SA we're not going full retard like leftists in USA and we still have an ID requirement for voting. Apparently it's racist in some parts of America to have to show ID when you're a minority and want to vote.

Its better to teach ghosts; they are never late and never fight with educators.

But ghosts whine and moan and it seems like they are doing something but in actual fact, any work they touch, turn to nought. That's how kids are today.
