Article: 500,000 e-tags sold: Sanral

At least 500,000 e-tags have been sold to motorists and fleet vehicle owners in Gauteng, the SA National Roads Agency (Sanral)said on Thursday.

"At least 500,000 have been sold: 300,000 of them have been bought by private individuals," Sanral representative Alex van Niekerk told a public hearing in Johannesburg.

I would hazard a guess that the figure is for the WHOLE country.. including other etoll areas...

Registered and bought is a different thing?
Bought as in bought by retailers?
Or bought by consumers?

Many people bought the thing because they were scared of the police locking them up/ all the threats the idiots threw at us, but never registered the thing.

They also scared the old people into buying the crap  they went to mr Mila's mom's old age home and fed them a pile of horse manure. They all bought one... But never registered.

Ag, I wouldn't be surprised if people have charged off and got them. Law abiding South Africans are easily spooked.

ANC BS again. Do these buffoons really think we are as stupid as they are.

Does anybody really trust SANRAL to speak the truth?

Did you know that the word Gullible is not in the dictionary?

This from the same Sanral who never held public hearings according to their mandate, keeps on hiding details from the public, faked being ready in the first place and threatened us with punative measures before?

Believe what Sanral says at your own peril, this is just a desperate last-minute attempt at steamrolling. Again.

I remember there was one member on MyBB that bought several, becuase the internal electronics was cheap.. So, in his case at least, he bought ten, but all 10 are out of circulation. Hell, I've got one, sitting in my windscreen, that has been microwaved. Dead as a dodo.

There are about 10 mill people in Johannesburg, its hard to say how many of those people have cars but I recon its between 1-2 mil.

8 million and some change in the 15-65 age group based on the census

the hearings addressed approx 600 people, so the level of targeted participation has been around 0.006%, if government views that as representative consultation then they must be smoking some really good stuff

I heard on 702 this morning that because of the level of hostility the representatives have received other engagement sessions for surrounding provinces have been cancelled
