Article: 702 not "a cheap station" - SAFM founder

702 is the best Talk Radio station on SA Airwaves. Just a pity that their signal is so weak in the Joburg South Area :(

He meant that 702 concentrates on the "talk" format, which requires very little outlay. All you need is an informed individual to sit behind a microphone in the studio.

His vision for SAFM was a station that does more than just talk. If you listen to SAFM at about 7pm on a Saturday you'll often hear a radio play being broadcast, for example. I doubt you'd ever catch 702 doing that because they're just a news station.

Good, its bad enough with their music on the weekend instead of news/actuality. I would go to RSG/SAFM or one of the mediocre music stations if I needed that.
 
702 plays golden oldies and the classic rock songs on Saturdays! It's great! Way better than the crap they play on Highveld these days.

The word 'cheap' was a very bad choice.

A constant stream of recorded old-time records is definitely cheap. Same old tunes every week. They used to talk on weekends, but cut the budget. In fact 702 used to have mostly native English speakers, but even that has changed. A perfect example of 'dumbing down'.

I dunno, I've found all of 702's presenters as clever and able to handle their own ;).

nobody in this thread is arguing that it isn't a cheap way to run a station. We only said it is better than all the others! :p

of course if you want to you can go and listen to whackhead Simpson every morning. :rolleyes:
