Article: AARTO not implemented next month

Motorists who have been panicking about the implementation of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) and the demerit system next month can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has clarified reports about the system which claimed it would be implemented from 1 October.

Oh, so the previous announcement was just misunderstood, VIVA leadership clarity.

NREP, which starts October 1st is the process of the law enforcement agencies stopping and checking one million vehicles a month on the country's roads.

That's 2809 vehicles a day.

I wonder how they plan to keep track of the actual work done, or is this another "achievement" without actual measure being set-up?
or - alternatively, are they planning to kill a lot of trees?

Why would anyone who drives properly be worried (or panicking)?

Why would anyone who drives properly be worried (or panicking)?

It's the taxi associations and drivers that are the ones protesting against AARTO, because they (the taxi drivers) would run out of points within a month. (The drivers as well as the owners are well aware that they consitantly break the rules)

The taxi owners are concerned as it will be thier taxi's impounded when the drivers are caught with suspended licenses and will have to pay the inpound costs as well as outstanding fines.
