Article: Ambulances must pay Chapman's toll fee

Is this for when there are accidents on the road, or are the ambulances driving across?

TRANSPORT and Public Works MEC Robin Carlisle says he is satisfied the building of a new toll plaza on Chapman’s Peak Drive is legally sound.

He said this while receiving a memorandum of protest at the site of the proposed R54 million plaza and luxury office where nearly 2 000 people gathered at a protest organised by the Civil Rights Action Group (Crag) yesterday.

Carlisle was at the receiving end of shouts, boos and heckling from protesters when he arrived, even being interrupted while giving television interviews.

“What business is it of the provincial government to invest in a commercial enterprise?” he was asked by one of the protest organisers, Philip Bam.

Another shouted: “Offices are not indigenous to Chapman’s Peak.”

“Robin, we voted for you, we voted for the DA, you have let us down. Shame on you,” protester James Brody shouted.

A private company is about to build a R54million luxury office block on Chapman's Peak in Cape Town, which is part of a National Park. As I understand it they are building a new proper toll plaza over a kilometre higher up the mountain from the old one, as well as a luxury office block for the toll company, on the drive...

The company keeps the rocks from falling and the road open. There is some debate about whether they are just in the revenue generation business. It would seem so with this luxury office block and 4-lane tool booth for a scenic track along the mountain.

They allowed visitors to the mountain to pass freely, but nobody is promising that will continue. I don't think it will.
 
Oke. Not saying it is right. Wonder if ambulances pay on other roads or are they fitted with a e tag. Never thought of it. Just assumed that they didn't need to pay.
