Article: Amcu protesters turn violent

Amcu protesters pelted cars with stones and barricaded roads in Rustenburg where a strike in the platinum industry entered its second day on Friday, North West police said.

"The police have started to receive reports of roads barricading and other incidents that are in contravention of the law," said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane in a statement.

The sad thing about giving in to demands due to strike, is like giving in to demands of terrorists taking hostages. If it worked once, what will stop them from doing it again because the they know they will get what they want?

Please fire these morons and mechanise the industry. I'm sick of it.

There is no justification for this violence, only thuggery. The mining industry illiad has gone on for long enough. It is doing more harm to our economy than good.

No surprise at all....a strike is not a strike without violence and some people dying :(

It is so sad how these miners think they run the show...

not really news - will always happen. This savages deserve all the aggressive response they get from SAPS.

A problem with mines but cars get stoned.

****ing retards!

Yeah, somehow I find it hard to find sympathy for those mineworkers who strike 24/7. You want to be stupid then pay the price for it. Looks like Marikana didn't teach them a lesson, time to have another one.

Zuma "we are not a violent nation"................................................

Nope are you?
But it does seem to be encouraged and inbred in this country and by the current leading party.

I'm not violent either. We're not a violent country. It's amazing how a vocal minority can make things look worse than they really are.

If you use your own non-violent demeanour as evidence of us not being a violent country then any cases of South Africans being violent is evidence of us being a violent country.

I was using myself (and Hemi300c) as examples of "the typical South African on the street". In any case, Zuma's statement was a response to some people having declared us a violent nation, and without proof of such a statement I only have my own experiences to go on, and in my experience, we are not a violent nation. I know many more non-violent people than violent people, and I'm quite certain that this is true for most people. So from where I'm sitting, how can we be a violent nation when most people here aren't violent?

Because there are significant levels of violence in our society, even if it's not the majority. Look at the murder rate, the rape rate, the assault rate. Go to any bar and someone will fight. :p

And if you look at something like an epidemic's severity levels. The worst case scenario (Spanish flu) only required a 2% case-fatality ratio.

But yeah, I get what you mean. It's a generalisation either way, so won't be particularly accurate. :p

They couldn't even make it through the second day of the strike without violence. Pathetic. Time to mechanise.
