Article: ANC not rich: Mkhize

The ANC is not rich but at the same time is not struggling financially, treasurer general Zweli Mkhize said on Tuesday.

"We are doing fine, we are not an organisation that will be reflecting a surplus like your mining companies, we are not that type of organisation," he told Sapa in an interview.

"The ANC is serious about transparency so we do it, and we account for the donations, we account for the expenditure. We account for everything."

Then why don't you do this while playing government?

Could we please compare this expenditure with other parties? Numbers on their own are mostly worthless without a comparison.

Some alternative endings to this:

"The ANC is not a rich organisation but...

a. we know how to squander money.
b. we know how to cash in on tenders.
c. we lavish the Prez with a multi-million rand home that is falling apart.
d. we have fat expense accounts for KFC.

The ANC is like the farmer in story that found a goose that laid golden eggs. He tried to cut it open to get all of it and found ... nothing.

Wealth takes time. Not just 10 or 20 years after full democracy.

The farmer in the story was a fool. Should I continue with an analogy?

Political parties are normally never "rich". Take a look at the USA. They may spend vast amounts of money, none of it theirs.
