Article: ANCYL to discuss hate speech ruling

The ANC Youth League's (ANCYL) leadership would provide its analysis of a judgment which declared an anti-apartheid refrain "awudubula ibhuna" (shoot the boer) hate speech, at a press conference in Johannesburg on Wednesday, its spokesman said. On Monday the High Court in Johannesburg interdicted league president Julius Malema and the ruling ANC from using the words publicly or privately, and called on others not to use them for the sake of conciliation.

I find the ANC's opinion regarding this issue deeply offensive.

They are the worst racists that ever walked this earth !

Maybe PorkyChe shouldn't have sung the word in the first place .. for the sake of conciliation and all you know.

The ANCYL will analyse a judgment? Since when did they study law?? Woodwork was a stretch already.

You have to love how the ANC always want to study a judgment or a report (think public protector here!) ..... and then you never hear from them on the matter again.

Queue the KFC Chicken and the Bacardi Drinks. We gonna discuss, boys!

Smuts said the DA thought Lamont's ruling was wrong because it extended the ban to all persons in all circumstances.

huh? Please explain?

I thought that is what we wanted? for it to be banned in all circumstances?

The ban is too blanketed and does not care about context which is why constitutional law experts are already saying the equality law's constitutionality will need to be revisited, because this infringes on freedom of speech.

And Gea is saying, it's unenforceable. He should have interdicted Malema, that way you could nail him.

Exactly. If we were to use this ruling as a precedent then half of Herman Charles Bosman's works would also have to be banned.
I personally think laws governing what is or isn't hate speech are a load of BS. We all know FatBoyChe only used these particular words to stir up controversy and rile a certain section of our population. Unfortunately they rose to the bait. If everyone had just ignored the idjit this storm in a teacup wouldn't even have arisen.
Same goes IMO for the whole "JustPlainGate". People just need to pull up their biggirlpanty and get on with their lives instead of worrying so much about the juvenile namecalling

This ruling is more of the same "crimen injuria" nonsense. Heaven forbid anybody gets their feelings hurt. Hooray for government protecting us from meanies! My government ruling is bigger than yours! Na na na na naaaa nah!

According to what I heard yesterday this should put a stop to malema singing it. If he sings it again he can be arrested for contempt of court.
