As millions of pupils lace their shoes and knot their ties in preparation for the first day of the 2014 academic year, a number of government officials will visit schools across the country to assess their state of readiness.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will visit Oracle Ponelopele Secondary School in Midrand.
 
Is there any reason why our schools still have a uniform system? Its a real waste of money IMO.

It relates to identity and being part in an organisation together, attached are pride and respect, one dress code IMO.

Ja, despite the costs associated with it, there are also many good benefits.
I'm sure it has most likely been discussed on this very forum before.

err, no actually it would be cheaper than civvies.

uniform:
no worry about what outfit for tomorrow
sense of belonging
no issue of not having the latest greatest levi, nike, etc items.
no issue of being picked on coz the child wears monday's outfit again on thursday


uniforms are cheaper than most of the most wanted name brands...
