Article: Ban blue light convoys: DA

IMO the only ministers that should be allowed to make use of these blue light brigades are Police, Intelligence and Defence.

The only other people to make use of blue light brigade is heads of state. Not even a diplomat. If a diplomat wanted, they can request for a security detail inside their vehicle while traveling by road, no blue lights.

For the life of me will I never understand why the minister of forestry and fisheries needs a vehicle fitted with emergency blue light.

Even if the 3 above mentioned MP's were the only ones having the blue lights, it could still be abused but then when you see them in your rear view mirror you know it might be a real emergency, not some fool thats late for a meeting.

Reminds me I was standing in the queue at the bank last weekend when some dandy in front of me was reading 'Top African entrepeneurs' or something. Normally I would have let it go, but the poor thing was so brimming with self-importance and had that special 'Oh look at me, I'm in a bank reading about business so you gotta know I'm loaded' look about him, and besides it was just too easy ..

You should have seen the look I got when I told him I saw what you're reading, and I like reading fiction too ..

My understanding is that WC has banned everyone except for
- the President
- genuine security threat exception

So Cabinet Ministers would have to follow the provincial law on provincial and council roads

Not even those ministers need blue lights. They don't respond to car hijackings, leap into tanks or conduct emergency phone taps. If it is urgent they have cell phones.

Running late is a sign of poor management
 
There is no reason for a MEC or Premier or Mayor or any other person of that kind of low position to have an unmarked vehicle fitted with blue lights.

Only members of cabinet should have them and even then preferably only the president and deputy president and maybe any security related ministers.

1. The only reason you should be using blue lights, even as ministry, is if it is an emergency.
2. If you have an emergency every single day then maybe you are the problem.

And if it's a real emergency then a helicopter is quicker than a car. And that being said, what emergency is so emergencyish that it needs a minister to be there right now? We have cellphones, video conferencing etc, and anyway the ministers know ****all about the situation anyway so they probably wouldn't add any value at all, other then getting their faces on the news.
 
Ain't never going to ban blue lights in the province while the clown-show ANC retains power. Regretfully they see it as there God given right to absue the roads, power and the KFC outlets.

In fact it would probably be better for all concerned if the minister were to be as far away from said "emergency" as possible so as to avoid unnecessary meddling

Ok kewl. I'll tell the next blue light ass to FARK OFF this my province and not his and how very dare he bring his scrap metal here with blue disco lights and he should be ashamed of himself.
 
I'm a fireman and speed to emergencies almost every shift i work,
The traffic Law states i may break the rules of the road only when I'm dispatched to an emergency and when its safe to-do so without putting any life in danger.
 
We stop at each Red traffic light and we make sure all traffic are aware of us want to proceed over the red traffic light and when safe we do.

Yup. I did some paramedic work, and if any of the response vehicles got a fine, the driver had to justify it...

So last Friday (23 June 2017 15:00) I got pushed off the road by a Blue Light Convoy of 8 (or was it 6 ?) white vehicles with Blue Lights racing along the M1/N1 from Johannesburg heading North.

Medium size sedans, so likely not Zuma, etc.

Serious reckless driving by these vehicles, drivers should have been jailed for reckless driving, there was already a lot of Friday afternoon traffic.

Anyone know what this was all about ?

This happens alot in Cape Town as well.

Sometimes, when on duty, I've even seen 1 of the vehicles responding.

The other day, I had him responding and I didn't move... He said something to me but I just smiled at him.
 
Who pays the fines they get. They are usually traveling at a pace that exceeds the speed limit by at least 20kmph

You know it's the head turd when there is an ambulance two black Vito's and a number of BMW and or range rovers... funny thing is he is never in those BMWs he is in one of the Vitos.
