Article: Blesbok sold for R7.8 million

A game breeder paid R7.8 million for an exotic Saddleback blesbok, Beeld reported on Monday.

The brown and white blesbok, named Top Deck, stole the limelight at the 13th Absa Kirkwood Wildlife Festival when Gamevest owner Phillip Mostert bought him.

What a waste of money. I just do not see how the beast could fetch that sort of price tag.

Lots of stupid things (signatures, locks of hair, first gun of whatever, signed books, etc) fetch very good prices for what looks like absurd reasons. It's a crazy world we live in.
 
Seems people are missing the point.

Breeding stock go for a heck of a lot of money because of their good or rare genes.
On something like this, the investment is paid off in two to three years (three for a buck, or 1.5-2 for a buffalo).
Last year a breeding buffalo bull went for around R45m.
