Public transport like taxis definitely have no call to be travelling more than 100kph. They should also be strictly regulated with stringent standards for driver training and certification, and vehicle condition; they should have to be inspected at least anually and any defect, no matter how minor, should result it the vehicle being removed service until it is rectified. Same applies to bus companies like Golden Arrow.Options :
1. Limit everybody to a 1600cc (or smaller) engine
2. Taxis will have a speed limiter hardwired. Any attempt(s) at tampering with said speed limiter will result in the immediate confiscation of said taxi
3. Bakkies will be limited to 1800cc engines
4. Emergency cars engine sizes will not be limited
5. Put more cops on the roads to be visible and not where they hide behind a bush with a speed camera.
6. Drunk drivers lose their cars, and will NOT be allowed to drive for the rest of their lives. Should a drunk driver be caught for the second time with another car, said car will be confiscated, and driver be locked up for a month. Finish en klaar. No bail.
7. Implement synchronized traffic lights so traffic going at 60km/h will get green lights all the way. (Speed can be adjusted).
Northern Cape road users proved to be mostly behaving as the province managed to keep the death figure at 66.
