But in the end of the day they will probably change them no matter what costing everyone a fortune when that money could be spent better elsewhere - Housing/Food etc but hey why should they care a name is more important than a impoverished persons well being.

Driving down Hendrik Verwoerd Drive daily leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The change can't come too soon.

I would have preferred neutral names like animals, colours and inanimate objects.

for a minutes there I thought Cape Town's name is going to change, instead of the streets in question :)

Same here as well. What getting ready for a right old hissy fit when I read the title.

i was ready and armed and was going to say furk no ...cpt stays the same name

and as for road names ...i dont want to search for roads when visiting people

Why should Hendrik Verwoerd have a name change? No matter how much you break down statues and rename stuff, you can't erase a memory of someone by burning a picture of them. Rather keep it, it's part of our history. He was once a president of SA.
Do you really think that if there's no streets in Germany called "Hitler Street" that people would forget?

Rather use money on constructive projects.

To put it this way:
If you know it will cost roughly R2m to rename these streets.
If you knew that your entire future tax contribution will be R2m.

Given the above, if you were offered the choice of never paying tax, ever, or renaming streets, which would you choose?
Now say the R2m would go to educating matric pupils without the funds to go to varsity, would you still choose not to pay your part in tax for that?

I believe there are no streets named after Hitler in Germany.

Google confirms there are none.

Thread title change is in order. Been aware of the name street changes. If they were gonna touch the city's name - I'd be ready to go all guerilla warfare on these mofo's!
